Wear comfortable clothes. Take a pillow. Take a blanket. Take a nap!
Might as well get some good out the 2 hours.

Ebert gave it a horrible review, and for once I think I agree with him, saying stuff like "Reeve's never ending monotone...", "Below bargain basement Matrix..." and "How do you avert a global crisis by taking it on a case by case basis soley in L. A.?" No I haven't seen it so I shouldn't say anything...and I'm not familiar with the comic. Maybe if I hadn't gotten my hopes up, for some reason, and thought it might be the sequel to The Devil's Advocate I'd be more interested. For now I'll avoid it.

Unfortunately, Reeves keeps getting cast in promising films. He's got no emotional range whatsoever. I'm really not looking forward to this walking 2x4's take on P.K.Dick's masterpiece A Scanner Darkly.

I liked the Hellblazer comic a lot, which was why I was so eager for Constantine. Thing is, John Constantine from the comic is actually a blonde-haired guy, so how did they end up with Reeves? No blonde actor wanted the part? I mean, someone like Brad Pitt would have been a great choice, he has the star power to draw in audiences, plus he can actually act. But maybe he saw the script and said, thanks, but no thanks.

If they can't do justice to Hellblazer, then it doesn't bode well for the film adaptation of that other adult-oriented comic book, Watchmen.

Watchmen is being made into a movie????????????

Anyway, I never read Hellblazer, but one of the best things ever done in comics is Moore's run on Swamp Thing. The storyline ending in #50 was extraordinary, and Constantine was a big part of it.

I feel about Nicholas Cage the way Cail feels about Keanu. I agree about Keanu, btw. Heh. Some great movies the are great in spite of their stars, rather than because of.

Well, the Watchmen movie project has been stuck in development hell for a number of years, as far as I understand it. I don't know how much progress has been made on it.

You've never read Hellblazer, and I've never read Moore's run on Swamp Thing, so we're even. :)

Too bad the Hulk movie wasn't based on Peter David's run.....Alan Moore's Watchmen and Swamp Thing are great reads, as is his LXG series.

Yessir, it was a favorite, but I haven't been keeping up with it or any other comic book series for several years now. Hellblazer was dark and violent, but well-written and irreverent, and John Constantine was one sarcastic SOB. In other words, how could I not like this guy? :) And as CovJr points out, yes, he was an English bloke. (And Keanu trying to do English accents are always, um, amusing.)

Constantine also played a starring role in another huge favorite of mine, Neil Gaiman's original 4-part graphic novel, The Books Of Magic (I don't care for the ongoing series based on it). This was a fantastic piece of work in both art and storytelling.

I can't say that I've ever read Hellblazer, but I found Constantine to be a pretty enjoyable movie. Sure, Keanu has all the acting talent of a clay brick, but Constantine as depicted by the movie is an emotionally distant guy anyway, so it worked for me. It wasn't what one might call a "cinematic masterpiece," but I was entertained the whole way through. I recommend that the hardcore Hellblazer fanboys see this as an action movie based on the Hellblazer comic books rather than a movie adaptation of the comic itself...it might help you cope with the small discrepancies throughout the movie. And honestly, how can you get upset over hair color and an accent? I don't understand why some people can't let that (or organic webshooters, for that matter) go...

Taking a character and turning it into a different character while claiming it's the same one. Very annoying if you're a stickler for detail. And I am.
