I've only read (well, attempted to read) Wurts' Curse of the Mistwraith and it sucked so bad I couldn't finish it.
Which is part of the aforementioned god-awful, dire, War of Light and Shadow series

I've never tried reading any of her individual books, and from the sound of it, I think I will skip them.

I have read one of Lindskold's, but it was nonfiction, so that probably shouldn't count for purposes of this poll. Her biography of Roger Zelazny is fascinating reading. :) But he was a fascinating man.

Another mother of the genre, along with LeGuin and Bradley would be Andre Norton (Witchworld books, Beastmaster...)

Just realized that I never included my own favourites! Here they are:

1- Robin Hobb
2- Katherine Kurtz
3- Margaret Weis
4- C. S. Friedman

I'll try to compile a list of all the nominees and put it on the blog at some point today.

Add my vote for Anne McCaffrey.

Ursula K LeGuin - I tried to read the Left Hand of Darkness once and failed. How could I not be impressed?

Anne McCaffrey is also impressive in a different way. If I need to know the regulation width of the windows of a Weir, thanks to her I have a solid reference.

Tom, perhaps you should stick with Dr. Seuss for a few more years before trying to read books without pictures.....

I'm forced to agree.

I hope Tab is a dog...
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.

pat5150,

Good to see Hobb high on that list. She's an excellent writer. Same for Le Guinn.
