I plan on taking a trip to Point Pleasent the next time I'm home. It pretty far across the state but I've got to see this place. I know the bridge has long been replaced but the Tnt area is still there and so is the bird sanctuary.

For those of you who don't know, I'll give you a link to the general synopsis of the real events that occured before the collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasent, WV in 1967

I highly recommend both the book and the movie. IMO, the book is superior.[/url]

Just read an interesting article that casts doubt on the whole Mothman Prophecies. Apparently one of the sources was known at the time to be a fraud (in regards to ufos), and the author never checked into that. If you can't research right then what are the chances you've made a mistake elsewhere?

Careful reading reveals several flaws and holes in Keel's story. Now whether those are simply mistakes or someone is staging some events etc. is another story. I think it was Gray Barker who was the semi-fraud you speak of.

i don't care about the veracity of Mothman Prophecies, it was an utterly CREEPY movie! 8O

I'd like to think the overall story was essentially true.

Luci, if you like the movie then read the book.

So do I, but it's more likely to be fiction.

husband read it after film came out and gave me a review so i didn't bother reading it. *shrug*

i liked the movie and understood the controversy and decided not to read it cause i didn't want to spoil the movie for myself. concious decision.

Finally saw the movie over the weekend. Like everyone says, it's CREEPY as heck. It knows how to mess with your head. I admit it, Richard Gere was pretty good, too. Laura Linney was loooovely. 8)

Haven't read the book. I'd like to at some point, but for now I just want to let the movie soak into me.

It was nice how the film kept fancy effects to a minimum. The Mothman drawings, the strange recorded sounds from answering machines, the "what was that in the mirror?" shots...these were plenty chilling on their own.

It's least scariest when Indrid Cold "materializes" to talk to Gordon in his car. It might've been better to have kept him/it just a shadowy, there-but-not-really there presence. Of course, I'm only judging how effective it is as a movie scene. I don't know if this encounter happened in the book, but perhaps the written word would have been been more effective in conveying the encounter.

The climactic bridge scene was even more "sinister" than it normally would've been, because it brought to mind the major bridge collapse that happened just recently in the US.

Well, it looks likely (which I always suspected) that the whole Mothman phenomena is a myth. Great story, though.

well how coincidental. i am planning on using part of the mothman story in my fable. i had just reserched it yesterday or the day before. i have my notes here.

and on you link for your mothman expose is a big add for breaking bad. during our dinner with srd i accidently wandered into the cast party looking for the rest room. i was moved along without finding the bathroom. nor did i see the big actor there.
