A colleague at work got me into manga, which I never used to read. She's corrupting me with anime and manga that is way more angsty and psychologically focused than I usually appreciate. Cool stuff.

Man, I can't wait until our other smilies come back.

Jay - if you wan to borrow my audio CD version of Runes, maybe that will help you get through it? Listening to Runes has to be easier than watching anime, since you can do so with your eyes closed.

Heh, yeah, I've never read any manga. If you run into any anime or manga that is particularly good and angsty, let me know, heh. I'd be interested to watch.

Hehe, thanks, but I'm really going to try to finish reading it myself. I would feel almost like I was cheating if I gave up and listened to the book on tape. I mean, it's just a book, I should be able to read the blasted thing. I do have some pride (or maybe not, heh).

I finished Chapter 5 of Part 2 last night! Woo! I was on a roll, I read nearly 8 pages last night! I'm determined now to finish before Saturday.

Oh...and I sort of did something bad yesterday... I bought this book I saw in the book store called "The Best American Science and Nature Writing" and started reading it. Heh. It's pretty good. But after reading one article, I realized that I was wasting precious Runes time, and put it down. Hopefully it won't distract me too much from my goal of finishing Runes, heh. It's pretty sad that it's easier for me to read these collections of short stories easier than a whole novel.-jay

See, one of the myriad ways I can annoy my older daughter is to refer to her manga as "comic books." I'm such a mean mom....

Hmm, Inuyasha, Escaflowne -- those names are ringing a bell.... I finally told my daughter last night that we were going to Romeo's for pizza on Saturday, and she said, "Oh, great -- I'll be in a roomful of Donaldson fans and I've only read half of the first book!" So maybe she'll feel better about the idea if she knows that there will be anime fans there.

Hehe. Yeah, Escaflowne is some pretty good anime. At least the series was pretty good. The story and the characters are great. And it's only 26 episodes long, so it won't take forever to watch.

Heh, we could really freak out Romeo and dress up like anime characters.-jay

We did a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 viewing of The Princess Bride, and viewed a few interesting Donaldson collectables.

One apology, though. Cail - I inadvertantly left you off of the list when I was coordinating everything. I thought you and Lorelei were in the same household. Who would have thought that two members could live in Pasadena, MD, and NOT be. I'll make sure to get you both on the list for the next one, though. We had a great time -- thanks, Romeo! And Creator (and Cail, too) -- we missed you; feel better soon!

The best part was when Romeo showed us the shelf where he keeps the first draft of Fatal Revenant. Syl tackled him and I sat on him while Jay and Alynna made us all copies.

And then I grabbed the Whelan painting and ran.
