Hey Newbies, over here first Come on in and tell us more about yourself. IMPORTANT: For new members, please read "New Members Only" BEFORE registering.
Welcome to all the new members! (Question is: are you committed members, or one-post wonders? Guess only time will tell.)
Darth, you're cool, but you're upsetting Furls, which is not cool. Please, no Runes references outside of the Runes forum. None. Nada. Zilch. Zipper your lips. Zip! Zip-it.com...
I've actually been a member for some time, but never posted. The community seemed pretty established, and SRD hadn't had any new books out for me to read and throw my two credits in on.
Since that's about to change, I have decided that it's time to disengage the lurking device and say "Hello." I may even get drawn into forthcoming book discussions.
And maybe submit a suggestion, for those of you folks who have actually know SRD and have had the opportunity to meet him:
With his upcoming book tour Stateside, is there any discussions or plans for regional "Elohims" or other localized gatherings of fans? I've read the gradual interview. While I respect the offer that was made by one poster to host SRD at his home, in this world, I can understand SRD's reluctance to take up any well-intentioned offer, out of a desire for privacy if nothing else.
On the other hand, it would be nice to be able to sit and talk, and maybe share a cup of tea or even a meal (in a public forum) with SRD, if he'd be willing--since there aren't plentiful aliantha around, he's going to have to eat something, somewhere, sometime. Have no idea of his likely schedule and time (for all I know, he could be whisked from bookstore to airport, with no time for anything) but if time allows for him to see sights of areas he happens to be in and actually enjoy himself, it'd be nice to give him the benefit of some local knowledge.
For my area of the Westron Mountains (otherwise known as the Rockies) there could be some quite spectacular leaf changes to see in the time I understand the book tour will be taking place (if I have the fortune to be anywhere near where he'll be appearing at). It'd be nice to see SRD have some fun on his tour, and I'd be willing to give him any info he'd like (if he wants any) on what would be worth seeing or doing in the various places he'll end up at.
It'd be some minor way of possibly giving him some enjoyment out of what appears to be, by and large, a very tedious process. And if he happens to see the mountains where I live, and comes up with a nice real-world inspiration for some future Land setting, well...

His response: "Holy $&!^. He's not kidding! Look at all these muffins!"
As far as local meets go, if anybody is ever in the Hampton Roads area (Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach), I'd be glad to go out for a coffee.
DC isn't a problem for me, either. Romeo and I have been talking about having a BBQ.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Hello everyone, I stumbled upon this site while looking up SRD. I just recently started to read the first set of books, in fact I already finished Lord Foul's Bane and I'm fighting with my husband over the second....He keeps sneaking it away from me to read for himself. I tried to read these several years ago and just couldn't get into them but now that I'm.... (ahem...) older and somewhat wiser I seem to understand more of it.
Anyhoo, hello and nice to meet you and I look forward to reading and posting along with you.
When last comes to last,
I have little life.
I am simply a deed:
an action done while courage holds:
a seed.
Hail, Wildwood. A quick word of warning for you. Unless you enjoy Chronicles spoilers, avoid Thomas Covenant Discussion as well as Runes Discussion, since almost everyone here has finished both trilogies of Covenant books and discuss them endlessly. However, you will find plenty of fun in General Discussion, Sci fi/Fantasy, The Waymeet and Collective. There's a little something for everyone here, and we are all very friendly.
Hope you enjoy your time here!!!
