I still say we're both right.

No, Kevin did not have anything left to do that would have saved the Land from Foul. However, the more important issue is that he should have tried whatever he
could do,
regardless. Picking up a stick and hitting the Despiser with it is better than the RoD. Mhoram knew what Kevin did not, and what SRD said that is in my sig:
We are not required to save the world. We are required to stand up as truly as we can for what we love.
Or, in Mhoram's words:
As long as something for which he could fight remained, he was impervious to terror. And something did remain; while he lived, at least one flame of love for the Land still burned. He could fight for that.
And those quotes are entirely appropriate for the Stephen C thread.

Ah ha! That was my stance all along. Despair drove Kevin to the RoD. I think you just like to argue with me. Going on and on when you really thought as I did all along.
Such fun times. The Watch holds many beautiful memories for me.
Here is one of my fav quotes from LFB...
"All right. So you're right. Tell me, just where the hell do you get hope?"
Slowly, the Giant rose to his feet. He towered over Covenant until his head nearly touched the ceiling. "From faith."
"You've been dealing with humans too long - you're getting hasty. 'Faith' is too short a word. What do you mean?"
Foamfollower began picking his way among the flowers. "I mean the Lords. Consider, Covenant. Faith is a way of living. They have dedicated themselves wholly to the services of the Land. And they have sworn the Oath of Peace - committed themselves to serve the great goal of their lives in only certain ways, to choose death rather than submit to the destruction of passion which blinded High Lord Kevin and brought the Desecration. Come - can you believe that Lord Mhoram will ever despair? That is the essence of the Oath of Peace. He will never despair, nor ever do what despair commands - murder, desecrate, destroy. And he will never falter, because his Lordship, his service to the Land, will sustain him. Service enables service."
Also appropriate for Stephen's thread, yes?

Christmas is coming. The house seems to sing out with joy as the sweet music of the season fills it. And although I am unable to participate in the fun of decorating and baking and putting together gift baskets...etc. A sweet peace envelops me. I feel His presence hold me. As we approach His Birthday, I hear Him speak to me in a sweet pure voice and when I close my eyes I see His glorious face. And, somehow...the pain becomes tolerable and I'm swept into His Grace.
Here is something beautiful...

The house is very quiet right now. Russ and all the kids have gone out into the woods to pick out a Christmas tree. Something we do every year. This could take until dark, since my family is quite picky about getting the perfect tree.

It's snowing here -- our first snowfall of the season. Got the Christmas decorations out of the storage closet this afternoon. I'm supposed to be cleaning the house right now so I can put them up.

No, really, I'm getting to it in just a minute....

Many of us for whom it is pretty much an annual occurrence would happily host you and yours if you happen to visit our part of the Northern Hemisphere at this time of year.
edit: Just noticed that this is my 777th post. Not sure what this signifies, but hopefully something positive for bringing geographically diverse Watchers together for future holiday seasons.

She's also freakishly tall. Like 7 feet!

But hey, we don't judge people in the Stephen C thread, so just be nice about it!
