Pretty stunning, Wayfriend - both the pic and the view from your deck! I appreciate the setting, as my place merely looks over a parking lot.

Nah, that's just an effect of the light.

my god. you've done it again, MM! 8O i've no IDEA how you do that.

your dusks are always tinged with a bit of purple, the lighting in your photos is always so...hallucinogenic. like enhanced vision.
i love them. all of them. this tree one is fantastic.

i'm not kidding, i think you have a series thing happening. you need to make a photo blog so we can see them all at once.

Thanks very kindly, Lucimay. My camera is just capturing what's already there: that interesting prairie light you get at dawn and dusk. If I "do" anything myself, I guess it's making the effort to find a good spot to get a decent shot. The film I use and/or the quality of my camera's lens probably helps, too, but I don't yet understand all that.

I do "cheat" a little by using Paint Shop Pro to spruce up my pics. The tools are there, so why not use them, eh? I use it because I find that when I scan my photos to my computer, they come out too dark and the colour is off. My scanner isn't the greatest, so PSP saves the day for me.

Wayfriend, you might want to check out PSP (or any kind of image editing software). There should be downloadable free trial versions. It's fun to be able to tweak your photos to your liking. PSP has a neat colour saturation filter which would be perfect for bringing out the orange in those leaves. :)

thats still some serious artwork. you've got a "touch" with that software as well as some fabulous compositions.
thanks for sharing them with us!
and for the tip on PSP. i've never tried it and i might give it a shot!

Well, I have LViewPro, PaintShop Not-Pro, and some other things.

I'm less stuck on tools and more stuck on what kind of tweak is needed.

Playing with color saturation, color balance, adjust HSV, adjust YCbCr, Exp Enhance, Log Enhance, yada yada. None of these seemed to do the trick. I was able to make the sky orange ... but not the foliage.

Foggy afternoon, ships on the bay...

Sky just after sunrise... it's hard to take a bad picture of clouds.

Florence, Italy. Legend has it, if you rub the boar's nose, you are certain to return to Florence one day. Notice how shiny his nose is, compared to the patina on the rest of him! The locks on the base of the statue are a form of graffiti, and symbolize love between two people. These locks are found throughout the city latched around just about anything that is stationary. It seems that the government of Florence tolerates the locks much better than it does any defacing of public property. :)

I should think about getting the same camera that you use, Lyr. I really like how crisp your pictures look.

Statues of naked guys, horses, and hogs...well, in order to restore some balance, I ought to post pics of statues of naked gals...if I can find any locally. Horses and hogs (okay, boars)...well, uh, I personally have no opinion on them either way.

In the meantime:

Image

This was professionally scanned. I did not apply any filters to this pic. It looks exactly the same as my film print. So there. :P

(Cripes, sorry it takes up so much space. Imageshack doesn't appear to resize vertical pics as efficiently as horizontal ones.)

I dig the cloud photo, Sorus! :)

And Wayfriend, sorry you can't get the effect you want. I'm still learning these software tricks, too. But going by your comments, I take it you don't think much of PSP anyway. Well, there's always that 800 lb. gorilla called Adobe Photoshop. I've never tried it myself, as I could probably read through the Chronicles faster than I could read through Adobe's manual. But it likely gives you insane levels of control over every aspect of your image as desired.

That's beautiful!

And yours are great too, Lyr. (I want to go to Europe..) Crisp is exactly the word. (What camera are you using?)

Heh... I take waaay too many pictures of clouds. I sometimes get off the bus on my way home from work if there are interesting clouds. I'll post some more later... need to make some room on my poor, over-full hard drive.

If you have PSP, I too recommend the saturation tool. Instead of the filter, maybe try the saturation brush...it's there with the dodge/burn/smudge brushes. That way you can apply it only to the areas you want.

(Great pic. :D )

Love that second one, Lyr! 'Stunning' seems an inadequate word to describe such architecture, but it's the best I can come up with at this hour.
