Vain, I am assuming that you are referring to the "Custom Rank" field in our profiles as opposed to our User Name. Correct? I thought User Names were hard linked to our account and couldn't be changed without creating a whole new account. Just curious...

Andy, trust me, changing user names is a game played by many on this site, when the mood overtakes them...

You may have to wait for a reauthorization email, but otherwise, change at will. The only caveat is that enables the former user name to become available for someone else to steal.

Thanks as always for the info, Menolly. However it is still not clear to me how changing my username imacts my account. For example I am not concerned with "post count prestige" should it get reset but whatever would become of my precious WGDs? I can't afford to lose those!

I think if you just change your username, all your schtuff still goes with you.

I *think*. Somebody who's actually changed their nick, help me out here, please....

Otherwise, you could set up a new account with a different nick. Gods know you wouldn't be the first here to do that....

ali's correct.
None of your post count or WGDs are affected by a user name change.
In fact, all of your previous posts are changed over to that name as well...

Many thanks to Aliantha & Menolly. I was mostly just curious as opposed to concerned. Of course once I get enough WGD to buy something neat I may get addicted and my outlook may change, LOL. I wonder if I can apply for a Kevin's Watch Charge Card. Hmmm...

I've changed usernames completely once, and temporarily several times. All of your things go with you. :P

Thanks, Wyldewode!

p.s. How embarrassing. Every previous time I have looked at your username I read it as Wyldewood. Good grief.

Actually, you have the pronunciation correct. It was just the spelling that was slightly off. It's the old english spelling of "wood." :D

My real name is Lars. I always thought these four letters looked a bit unsymetrical, so I made up the presumed anglicized version "Larth". Since I mostly dress in black, my friends started calling me "Larth Vader".

Now, these were the days of Ye Olde DOS games. There was this 8-letter restriction for names. So I could only enter "Larth Va" which somehow looked crap. So after a while I dropped the "Larth" but kept the "Vader".

So you can see my name is only marginally related to your favorite movie villian and Sith Lord Darth. As much as I like the original Star Wars movies, I actually prefer Star Trek (apart from the latest spin off "Enterprise") and the new Battlestar Galactica series.

I work in software quality engineering, testing software and processes and designing new ways to break things. I've always felt that this is a very "truth-seeking" profession, as we seek to expose the facts behind the assertions made about what a system or program is and does. I am quite compassionate and empathetic, but I am often blunt in my presentation of facts which are sometimes unpleasant to hear.

Therefore, I am the Test of Truth.
