Getting things backward there Sarge. Conservatives are much more likely to either not believe in the risk or just not obey the restrictions, making them more likely to get infected simply because of their own actions. (Though generally I believe the risk is more associated with economic class than anything else. Poor people can't stay safe and also make a living.)

Murrin - Sorry. But I watched liberal pundits say that Trump rallies were superspreader events but leftist riots and Biden. Elevations were not.

So the only conclusion is that Covid is smart enough to only attack conservatives.

I'm feeling pretty good today.

Recently started taking on a ton more responsibility at work. Well it was thrown at me. I'm not an organized person but I care a great deal about my work (small startup, small team, in the field of my dreams) so I am leveling up as fast as I can to catch up to it. Today is the first day I could see the light at the end of the tunnel! :flex:

What field you in now? (And damn that's a good feeling...wish I could have it more often...)

Can be very rewarding to work up with a company, when I started at my current job, there were only 5 of us, now we're ore than 4 x bigger.

It has drawbacks too, but I've loved this job from the start.

Hard drive dock arrived. Had to run a chkdsk /f before I could access it, but files seem to be intact. Not sure what to do with the drive once I've copied all these files off it though.

Also I should probably replace the drive I'm copying the files onto, because it's actually older than the one that got corrupted.

I tend towards overkill when it comes to backup. I don't like having all my digital eggs in one basket. Unfortunately, I'm also a digital hoarder who can't delete anything. I've successfully eliminated clutter from my real shelves, but those 500 gigs of low-def video from a project 12 years ago? I might need that someday.

People here are in panic-buying mode once again. The grocery store had a line around the block and a 45-minute wait to get inside. Shelves have been stripped bare of TP and other paper products again.

Next week I will be playing a new round of Guess which coworker has to quarantine because of their holiday plans?

Will it be my boss with her huge family gathering? She's managed to dodge a lot of bullets so far, but that luck is going to run out one of these times. Maybe the guy who is meeting up with his entire church? Too easy. This would be his third quarantine. Slow learner.

Lucky for me, my usual Thanksgiving plans involve staying home and playing WoW, and that's socially acceptable for the first time this year.

Yeah, I cart around an ungodly amount of ancient files...some I've been transferring from drive to drive since the 90's. :D

And I often have multiple copies of backups on different drives.

Destroy it. A drill does the job nicely. And get an external drive, copy the most important stuff onto it again, and lock it away somewhere.

As for me, I'm fine. Counting down the days 'til I'm on leave.

Almost the whole of the GF's family on her mother's side tested positive for Covid last week, starting with the youngest who's at university.

Luckily her grand-parents seem to have avoided it, and the rest aren't particularly high risk, so hopefully it will work out fine.

Otherwise, all much of a muchness really.

Both prayers and positive vibes directed towards Melody's family. Here's hoping for easy recovery for them all.

From just upthread of these quotes:

Potentially-missing piece of information - Av's significant other is known to Watchers as Melody.

Not surprising, Sarge. Easy to miss.

Av's only posted it a few times; usually when someone (mostly Menolly or Wadds) mentions it first. A search for the word in his posts surfaces far more mentions in a poetic context than in reference to his significant other.

Haha, she's not just known to Watchers as that, that's actually her real name too. (She had an account here once upon a time.) :D She doesn't usually go by it online though.

Thanks, will pass it along guys. She's not really close with them much apart from the grandparents, who basically raised her after her mom died. Same on the other side, haven't seen, spoken to or heard from her father's side since her paternal grandmother died.

Neither of us are very big on family connections it seems. :D (Of course, most of my family is dead, but I'm not in touch with my dads side at all any more. Not from any animosity or anything, just were never really close.)

Thanks Sarge. :D Actually, I have some family in Tx. 2nd cousin of my mom's (whose family I was much closer to) married a Texan and lives there...maybe in Houston, not sure. Die-hard Republican. ;)
