...so...

What did you enjoy about the DVD?

I managed to procure a copy of the Dark Side of Oz - the video of The Wizard of Oz synchronized to The Dark Side of the Moon. Everyone knows about that [link] but I had yet to experience it.

I haven't seen all of it, but I did watch the tornado piece. They way it's synchronized to The Great Gig in the Sky is just ... freaky. In a really enjoyable way.

I guess I wouldn't mind watching it too if I had a copy, even though I think Wizard of Oz is a complete bore. But I suppose watching it to the sound of Pink Floyd could relieve the boredom.

On the other hand, do I really want Dark Side of the Moon to be associated with this movie in my mind? No.

I have not yet seen this synchronisation for exactly the same reasons...

What I have watched is the Echoes/2001 Space Odyssey synchronisation which is also awesome.

I've never heard of either before. Does anyone have a link to synchronisation directions?

Picked up the remastered "Final Cut" disc. Meh. The original CD (and LP) weren't well mastered at all, so I was really hoping that the newer release rectified the issues.

Nope. Still sounds like I'm listening to it through a muddy bucket (which is odd, 'cause "The Wall" sounds fantastic, as does every other PF album).

I still don't like this album, but I do renew my statement that Gilmour plays his motherlovin' ass off on "Not Now John".

Agreed. I got it a short while ago too, and I didn't think the remastering added much either.

I really do like the album though (which is odd, cause it's so Waters-heavy, and given the choice, I'd pick Gilmour every time, but hey...). I actually think it's some of Water's most moving stuff. When Gilmour actually does get to play, he's outstanding though. I also like the fact that Gilmour sings the "F- all that" lines on Not Now John. It works on a "plot" level of the album, and I always imagined it as Gilmour sorta telling Waters off too.

The remaster added When The Tiger Broke Free too, and while I like the song, I just find it jarring on this album.

My favorite Pink Floyd song of all time, I love most all but this destroys me (swine flu alert :P :P :P) Dogs part 1 '77 part 2 Sorry the vocal qualities, sort of, suck but the guitar shreds me to pieces... :

According to an L.A. Times report, the Flaming Lips are set to follow-up their life- (and death)-affirming LP Embryonic with a full-album redo of Pink Floyd's gazillion-selling 1973 psych-rock classic Dark Side of the Moon.

The Lips version of Dark Side is a collaboration with the band Stardeath and White Dwarfs (which includes Wayne Coyne's nephew Dennis Coyne as a member), and features guest spots from Henry Rollins and Peaches. It will most probably be an iTunes-only release.

The announcement was made last night during a Q&A session with fans at a MySpace show last night at L.A.'s Nike/Ricardo Montalbán Theater. (Check out photos from the gig after the jump and in the photobook here.)

Other tidbits revealed: While Embryonic was the final album of the Flaming Lips' current contract with Warner Bros., they plan on sticking with the label for future releases.

Also, the video for "Watching the Planets" features a nude Wayne Coyne (as well as a bunch of nude bikers). The internet's not ready.

All phases of Pink Floyd's career have songs that I like. It would be hard to choose a favorite album, but I guess that I like Wish You Were Here the very best, because of its many beautiful keyboard and guitar melodies.

I am hoping now that Roger has released this version of the Wall, he will finally release another solo album. one that has been long promised.

and I hope that David continues on with even more solo stuff.

One of my favorite early Floyd songs, from A Saucerful Of Secrets.

SET THE CONTROLS FOR THE HEART OF THE SUN
(Written by Roger Waters)

Little by little the night turns around.
Counting the leaves which tremble and turn.
Lotus's lean on each other in union.
Over the hills where a swallow is resting.
Ah, AH-ah, AAAH, ah. Ah, AH-ah, AAAH, ah.
Set the controls for the heart of the sun.

Over the mountain watching the watcher.
Breaking the darkness waking the grapevine.
Morning to birth is born into shadow
Love is the shadow that ripens the wine.
Ah, AH-ah, AAAH, ah. Ah, AH-ah, AAAH, ah.
Set the controls for the heart of the sun.
The heart of the sun, the heart of the sun.

Who is the man who arrives at the wall?
Making the shape of his questions at asking.
Thinking the sun will fall in the evening.
Will he remember the lesson of giving?
Ah, AH-ah, AAAH, ah. Ah, AH-ah, AAAH, ah.
Set the controls for the heart of the sun.
The heart of the sun, the heart of the sun
