It was cancer - she told Bernand as much when he proposed to her at the restaurant. She said she had been in remission but it had come back - so it was definitely cancer. Later on she described the cancer as "something that shouldn't be there" when talking about how she feels - and even later on, when trying to explain to Bernard how she knows she's been cured.Murrin wrote:I don't remember if it was ever stated to be cancer, but I seem to recall a quote where she talks about how it feels having something inside of her that isn't meant to be there and is killing her.

HMMMM....I too never thought about that, but, you have a very good point, he very well may have been infected/resurrected. It was all the rage at the time to talk about how he couldn't be killed (People even half expected he would survive Charlie's death). Dang, never even thought back about Mikhail in comparison to all the other resurrections/dead people walkingMurrin wrote:Mikhail is (or was) infected! I can't believe it only just occured to me. (Watching the episode where he appears and helps save the first person from the helicopter, after he died to the sonic fence.)

As far as Ben's cancer, I think that that was MiB's doing in order to turn him on Jacob... however, I think that Jack being on the plane was Jacob's counter plan.

An episode or two later, Mikhail turns up at the Others' camp and claims he was lucky that the fence wasn't set to lethal levels, but I'm not sure I trust him on that. Though it raises the question why the Others wouldn't suspect him like they did Sayid.
I'm also curious what caused Locke's paralysis to heal. It was his recovery from it that caused the others to believe he was special, and eventually led to him becoming leader - and probably was the one thing that gave Richard faith that this person who had so far seemed unexceptional actually was special. So I wonder what was responsible, because it seems extreme even for the island's normal healing powers. It certainly fit with the nemesis' plan pretty well.

It was an interesting episode, but I have two gripes.
1. Stop with the fiddle-farting around awready! I'm usually very patient, but I'm getting annoyed with the amount of time they talk around everything and slow up what should be a faster paced season. FLocke and Sawyer walking around, and the ladder sequence just was dragging the episode out so that they could get to the end of episode to start really giving us anything.
2. Is there going to be a point to the flash-sideways sequences? Or is it just to tell us what would have happened to those we know if they didn't go to the island and kinda say goodbye one by one? If so, then it was nice to see Locke's story, but if it doesn't tie back in somehow, I'm going to be annoyed they wasted so much time on it this season.
I think it is time to really drop a heap of answers, and this is a good time to do it. That way we can have an idea of the stakes and see how everything finally plays out. I don't think now is the time to tilt the show on it's head again - let us know what is going on and get us excited about how it is going to wrap up. Don't continue to add new mysteries even as we are being doled out answers here and there.

I agree. I find nothing more annoying then the other Others... them and their blatant dodging of questions. I suppose that we need to tell ourselves that, despite the advertisements, the time for questions is far from over.Cagliostro wrote:It was an interesting episode, but I have two gripes.

As far as the flash sideways, they exist, I believe, primarily to get them out of quite the pickle with respect to how the atom bomb affected time. Did it change anything, or not? Why not take the easy way out and do both and then get people excited by telling them there'll be no more flashbacks? Shenanigans, I say!

There are 15 episodes left. If they gave us all the answers now, what would the rest of the season be about?
We just got a huge answer last night: everyone was intentionally brought to the island to be a candidate for Jacob's replacement as the guardian of the island. That's why they are there! Why know now (if we can trust Locke)! That was a HUGE moment in lost, just three episodes into this season.
Did anyone else notice that Claire's name (Littleton) was already marked out, but Sayid's was not? If they were both infected, why one and not the other?

Claire is probably dead, Sayid, maybe not so much, or maybe Sayid can still be saved and Claire is long past that point?Zarathustra wrote:There are 15 episodes left. If they gave us all the answers now, what would the rest of the season be about?

The folks pointed out were 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42. Did anyone catch who was what number?

Sayid probably isn't crossed out because Jacob was two hours dead when Sayid died.
This series is so full of in-jokes now. The - hell I'm getting tired of not having a decent name for him - imposter Locke shouting the same phrase Locke was known for back when he was angry and frustrated. Locke at the end introducing himself as "John Locke, Substitute".
I'm kinda missing the side characters that were lost in season 5. Now it's streamlined down to pretty much just the main cast, and it doesn't feel right.
And the Ilana/Ben/Sun/Lapedus storyline needs to start going somewhere.

Here! Here! I'm quite enjoying the mystery myself, though maybe that's because this is the last season.Zarathustra wrote:There are 15 episodes left. If they gave us all the answers now, what would the rest of the season be about?
Locke also implies that Jacob's interference took away their free will. Sounds a little kettle/pot to me. What I really liked in that episode was the Locke mantra, "Don't tell me what I can't do!" popping out of MIB's mouth. I actually laughed out loud.Zarathustra wrote:We just got a huge answer last night: everyone was intentionally brought to the island to be a candidate for Jacob's replacement as the guardian of the island. Another answer was Ilana (?) saying that MIB is stuck with Locke's appearance because of what happened. We've already seen what I believe is Jacob appearing as MIB used to be able to do. Did they swap abilities? Does the permanent image allow real interaction, as Jacob apparently had done for years, and the dead-people impersonating force behind the scenes manipulation?
I wonder if Sayid isn't scratched out only because Jacob isn't around to do it, and Locke scratching out Locke was merely an ironic gesture?Zarathustra wrote:Did anyone else notice that Claire's name (Littleton) was already marked out, but Sayid's was not? I also wonder if the "infection" that Claire and Sayid have is simply the removal of Jacob's influence. This makes them wild cards, just as Rousseau appeared to be, something that Jacob would discourage and MIB seems to prefer. Keep in mind that it was Rousseau who stopped the tower from transmitting the numbers.

I don't think I was being very clear in what I said before, so let me try again. I think they need to drop the big answers and kinda set the playing field up. To use a sports analogy, which I so rarely do, imagine a game of football. So far, we have been getting a close up of the players, and in their street clothes, maybe some of the lines of the field. We've seen them run a few plays with a shaky camera, and as of the final episode of season 5, we finally were able to see the coaches. What I'm suggesting is to pan out a bit so that we can say, "yes, this is football (so these are the rules), and they have their helmets, padding and jerseys on. We can now see both teams and the field. Now...play ball!"Zarathustra wrote:There are 15 episodes left. If they gave us all the answers now, what would the rest of the season be about?
It doesn't need to happen straight away. I still enjoy the mysteries as well, and I still want there to be questions at the end to comb over for a while after the show is off the air. What I will consider a failure is if this series ends like The Prisoner - way too open to interpret it any way you want. While I love The Prisoner, they've been saying since the beginning that there are answers, so I've taken them on their word. I'm just ready for them to stop teasing and drop a couple big answers so that we know what we're seeing finally, instead of waiting for the final episode to finally reveal the framework of the show so that we'll have to go back over every episode to see how it all works together (which is what I felt like the finale of season 5 did). While I dug it in season 5, I'm growing impatient and worried now.

Cag, I see what you mean. I have a feeling it's going to do nothing but build from here.
