So the book will have on the front, KW anthology? I can imagine loads of people cueing up for that. Sorry for sounding rude.Vagrant Wit wrote:I see no need to go outside of the watch for this project. In fact, I am directly opposed to the idea. I think I already suggested one option for the title. It doesn't have to say anything on the front that we don't want it to. People aren't writing under pseudonyms or Watchnames or anything; we don't have to emphasize the Watch on the cover unless we want to.
Since this is the first really solid go at an anthology put together by Watchmembers, maybe it makes sense to keep the scope relatively small. Once we see how well it works, maybe we can do another one, and open up submissions to other forums.

Geez people, it's not even half way through the month yet.
Submissions close end of the month. The Anthology itself won't be out for much longer, so we can have all our little in fights about what it should be called, and whther or not non-Watch members will buy it, and if that even matters, later.
To be honest, I don't give a flying f*** what it's called, or if only Watch members buy it. If we wanted to launch writing careers or make money, this probably wasn't the way to do it.
On February first, Matrixman, dlbpharmd and I will look at what we have chosen, and together with Dragonlily, Myste, Tom and Hierachy, decide if we have enough works. Until then, lets all chill.

Now that I've popped up my submission I feel a great weight lifted from my shoulders. Naturally I'm going to try to finish a second story before the deadline.
Congrats, Furls. I'm really glad you were able to get The Creed submitted. Now we're cooking with gas!
I'm really looking forward to reading everyone's stories.

Sorry, Alan, didn't mean it to sound like I was seriously upset. Just a bit of umbrage... a speck, really. I thought the "intellectual property" bit would have been enough to highlight my lack of seriousness.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Well said Tom. That's the way I feel about it too. Keep it amongst ourselves, and if nobody ever buys it, that doesn't matter at all. That's not the reason it was decided to do it in the first place.aTOMiC wrote:I don't think any of us believed we'd launch our writing careers with the Anthology...I think that the concept of the Anthology escaping beyond the boundaries of our discussion group and attracting outside attention should have no bearing or impact on why we are creating the book in the first place. I'm cool with it being "by us for us". If it goes beyond that its just gravy.
Hope you're all having fun!

If the main aim was to collect the best stories, hell we could have printed and got them bound ourselves. As far as I am concerned, I want this anthology to sell.

Seriously though, while I understand you perfectly, it just doesn't seem important to me. As far as I'm concerned, simply having it, in whatever form, is the most important consideration.
Just printing and binding it ourselves would be fine too. Hell, we can just have it in a digital format, and whoever wants one can print it for themselves and bind it themselves.
Easy either way personally, but for me...

I don't want to be mistaken - I'm keen because it will contain stories by people I admire here. It's just that the idea of it selling - of people reading it - appeals to me.

Sure, that would be great. It's always a pleasant thought to know that your work is being read by others. But as Tom said, that's just "Gravy."
Afterall, it'll be read by us at least.
Still, being uninvolved in the whole process myself, I'll leave it to you all to sort out. Like I said, I'm easy either way.
Have a good one
