No way I'm getting any time off, but take lots of pics and whatnot.

At least it's Friday. The last proper weekend I'll have for a while. (Yay, inventory season with half staff.)

I need one of those. Last I had was in November of 2014.

Not likely to have one this year either. Need to find a new job...

Technically they give it, they just don't let you use it. Been capped at the maximum for about three years now. Boss is retiring this month, so we'll see if his replacement is better or worse. Could take a while to replace him, since for some weird reason we have trouble hiring people. It's a mystery why.

Maybe it's that one temp who, for some reason - it's the darndest thing, really - always gets asked, "How do you like it here?"
And then he quickly looks left and looks to the right, and hisses, "Fly, you fool! Fly while you still can!"

(j/k; I'm designing fictional scenarios at Sorus' workplace.)

The leave thing sounds exasperating. I dunno.

I had a good day... I think one of my tutoring students rocked out!
Think we've passed some kind of a "tipping point" where now I can just plain tell her "okay, this is what we're going to do to solve this problem, and this is how we're going to do it, and this is the kind of problem it's analogous to that you already know how to do..." and she grabs hold of math concepts & methods.

Woke up and discovered that my floor had turned into a lake overnight. Not an upgrade. Couldn't figure out where the mess was coming from, but was relieved that it had not come out of a cat. (Always the first thought when stepping in Yuck first thing in the morning.) Had to go to work because there is literally no one who could cover for me. Asked to leave early due to emergency. Had to stay five hours. Going to catch hell for it tomorrow, but you know what, the last time I missed work - for any reason - was in October of 2015. I'm not going to feel guilty about it. Not very guilty, anyway. Probably.

Anyway, there's a broken pipe in the wall and I'm waiting for the plumber.

I'm terrified today. I've seen something I've never before seen in my life and I honestly don't know what to think about my life anymore.

So I got up this morning, did my normal routine of showering, brushing my teeth, eating cereal and a very strong coffee when I looked out of my window and up at the clouds... and what do I see? Blue.

I don't know what this blue background is where our clouds always are; furthermore there's this bright yellow thing in the blueness... it hurts to look at and I don't understand what's going on.

Help me.

Sounds like you have some leverage as employees to demand to use your holiday time. What are they going to do, fire you? And unless your job involves monitoring newborns or keeping the space/time continuum in balance, it cannot be so important that you have to go without a break for years at a time.

Tell your boss you are taking a week or two off, give a month's notice, and then take the time off. Encourage your work mates to do likewise.

Isn't California an at will employment state? As in, you can be fired for any reason at any time?

Yes, it is. And my boss is not the sort of person who would take an ultimatum well. I don't think he'd fire me, but I'd stress over the possibility enough that a vacation gained in such a way would not be overly relaxing.

95% of the people who have been fired from my workplace in the time I have been there were caught with their hands in the cookie jar. My boss knows he'd have a bloody hard time finding someone who would work as hard as I do and put up with as much crap as I do, especially for what they pay me. On the other hand, he did once refuse to let me leave work early to go to the hospital the day after I was hit by a car and thought I might be bleeding internally. And he did once say that I have value when I'm working, but no value if I'm not working. I'd really like to think there was some translation issue there, but I'm not sure.

Every time you talk about your job Sorus, I just want to tell you to walk out of it. I know it's not that easy, but damn...

Anyway, I'm back.

Back on the Watch, and back at work. Meh.
