Actually, somehow the script sucked out all of the book's funny parts and the actors were less than adequate.Loremaster wrote:Just watched Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Anyhow, I'm not the greatest fan of HHGG anyway. I much prefer Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, and to a slightly lesser degree, it's sequel The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul. Both of those books take place on earth during our time, and and English culture figures heavily into the story lines.
Don't give up on Doug completely until you've read Dirk Gently, at least.

I think the Dirk books are more consistent in quality than the Guide. Yes, indeed. By an effort of will, I can enjoy the movie version of Hitchiker's Guide, but I agree that it's probably not the best way to introduce people to the humour of Douglas Adams. (Oh, well, dANdeLION got a kick out of the movie, and he and I at least agree that Sam Rockwell was good as Zaphod Beeblebrox.)

We watched a little documentary called The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill the other night. It was about this flock of wild parrots living in San Francisco, of all places. It was a gentle little movie (though with one sad part), good for kids who love animals - my fourteen year old loved it.
Love as thou wilt.
Watched The Interpreter last night. Thought the acting and the direction were both pretty good, but the ending was beyond silly.
