I posted a short story at Amazon and it's free today. Here's the link:
www.amazon.com/Lulie-a-short-story-ebook/dp/B007E4XQCO/

Go forth and make me popular. (Thanks!)
Done!

It'll give me something to read on my way to Chicago next week.

And for the record, I don't have a Kindle either. I have the Kindle app on my Macbook Pro and on my iPad.
Thank you! :D

It's currently #35 in contemporary fantasy in the Kindle Store. 8O

Ms. Mary, can you give me the link to download that app? I have a mac and can't find it.

Happy Leap Day!

Altho I've gotta say that I've been shaking my head over the Leap Day stuff in the paper -- "what are you going to do with your extra day??" I dunno about the rest of y'all, but I'm at work -- same as on any other weekday.

I was supposed to have today off. :x

I've actually had a very, very strange day, and for once not work-related.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Strange good or strange bad? (some of my strangest days were some of my best days)

I'm still trying to decide. I got a letter in the mail from a relative who is a virtual stranger to me (met him once when I was very young). I severed ties with my family many years ago, to our mutual relief, and I don't want to go opening those doors again. At the same time, I am... intrigued, for lack of a better word.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama
In no way related to this Lennon lyric, I bought ali's shot story Lulie and loaded it on Dam-sel's Kindle Fire. While she is only about 60% through it, I have read the whole thing. Between the dragonfly connection to Syl's new Acropolis game and the obvious parallells to the horserite myths we know from the Chrons...I really enjoyed it. Recommended!

Looking at booking my holiday now that I have my passport, and of course the prices have suddenly jumped by £100-200. I can get the exact same flights and hotel for a little over £30 less on lastminute.com than on expedia, but the price is still a lot more than I was looking at paying a week or two ago.

It looks like it'll cost me £1000 for the hotel I wanted (and that hotel charges a "resort fee" per night on top, comes to nearly £30 for the full trip). I could save £100 going to a cheaper (but less conveniently located) hotel, so I have to decide how much the location and quality of the hotel will matter to me.

Do you think there's a way for you to get to do some of the art stuff you'd like to while you're at home?

aww, too bad ya didn't get to say hi!

whoa you were doing that reading? cool! Your favorite? 8O

Awesome! I'm curious about where/what!

Oh, and ali- we're not members of a denomination, so there's no "they" to move us around.
The process of finding where we're going next will be less linear, (and more annoyingly uncertain) but probably also more of an adventure. :)
But you have a point; staying local is still a possibility...

A trip to Chicago? Exciting! (I think.) Are you gonna get to hit any museums or zoos?

Thank you, kind sir! :) Go leave me a review on Amazon!

Interesting that you're seeing parallels to various things. I wrote that story in '09 for the erstwhile 4th KW anthology, so I guess you could say it was my idea before it was Syl's...

Ananda -- how cool is that? 8)

MsMary -- Chicago can be brisk in March, so be sure to bring a winter coat... ;)

Anyway...today is meh. At work again. Meh.

linna - i'll be able to write, more than that will have to wait.

James 5

1Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

2Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

3Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

I'm tired. It was a long day and I'm not all that happy about having to spend more time on the floor instead of in the copy center. Since they are doing away with a department manager spot at my work I have to focus more on the store as a whole rather than doing what I like. It also means I'll be closing a few nights a week so my schedule is going to jump around in the most obnoxious way. Monday I close, Tuesday I am morning shift, Wednesday I close, Thursday is mid shift and Friday I close. I'm going to talk to Kin tomorrow about putting my closing days in a row or something more conducive to a normal sleep pattern.

The good side of having to be on the floor more is I had fun conversing with the new guy Max and getting to know him a bit better. Towards the end of the day I showed him how I like the binder aisle to be recovered. On the bad side, I snagged one of my nice pairs of fingerless gloves on the edge of a binder and now the thumb has started unravelling. My KISS gloves are coming apart as well. I think I might need to mail them to Aliantha with some cash and a bottle of distilled chicken to try to entice her into trying to fix them for me.

Well, crap. I'm sorry. :( Sure, send 'em back if you want, and I'll see what I can do.

Watching our new branch manager, I've been struck by how much I just know about retail banking. Forget the details, the systems, the procedures... I've been in this business 11 years now, and I suddenly realized how well I know it.

Would it be hubris for me to think that I could do that job?

Anyhow, I put out a few applications for new work, and I've got an interview at a local credit union next week. I know I want to relocate sometime in the next few years, but now's not a good time, so I'm still staying local to Portland.
