Me- "Thank you for calling *blah* this is Mel."
Them- "I'd like to speak to *blah*"
Me- "Sure, may I tell them who's calling?"
Them- "*random douchebag*"
(pressing appropriate button to connect to *Blah*)
"*Blah* you have a call from *random douchebag* on 101"

Well, I've blabbed on here enough, but I don't think anyone (other than chat-forms and Elohimfest and Bubonicon quests) knows anything about me. I'm 49 years old and been on Watch forever. You can figure out my real first name somewhere in the Hall of Gifts sub-forum. I have been married to Leslie (Tam) for 14 years this coming Wednesday. We currently have two adorable foster boys and are expecting a little girlie right away. I'm a Special Education teacher for Reading and Social Studies. I do alot of things (some not that often as before) and have held almost every job you can imagine; fast food, delivery, shipping and receiving, running a men's health club, pizza cook/bouncer, Mason's laborer, stage builder, running an environmental canvass, telemarketing, collection/banking, landscaping, basketball referee and coach, educational assistant, running a NM democratic phone bank...oh yeah: In the goddam Navy for two years, too and I'm sure I've missed a few.

I went to a very uptight boarding school in Connecticut, attended four different colleges and finally graduated in 2001 (What a space oddessy! 8O) I'm halfway through Graduate school but may change from Spec. Ed. to something else. Job goal: to write fantasy, own a sci-fi fantasy bookstore and be an Associate Prof. all at the same time. I still play basketball and tennis when my gimpy bod can get around, art when I can afford it, poetry, hotwheel collecting, camping, sports addict and avid gardener.

Favorite musician: Neil Young

most admired person in history: Akhenaten, Da Vinci, William Blake & Einstien
comic book idol: Daredevil
sports figure: Michael Jordan
hero: my Dad
fantasy series (other than TCTC): A Song of Ice and Fire-Martin
non Neverness related sci-fi (currently): Metaplanetary/Superluminal-Daniel and Iain M. Banks' "Culture" series
most admired Native American visionary: Black Elk

TV: LOST
car: Managusta-De Tomaso Panthera
first word uttered: DAMM!
most admired political leader: Ghandi and Jefferson
Watch member: dANdeLION
most missed member: Skywier
heritage: Scotch/Irish
famous person directly related to: Francis Marion "The Swamp Fox"

I guess I will jump in and tell you about myself, though I have been posting for a few weeks.

I have actually been around the watch for a few years. See, I am in this cycle since I was 18, reading TCTC ever other year. Then afterwards, I get obsessive about the books for 6 months or so... (it was in this phase I discovered SRD's site and Kevins Watch.) Then I move on to other things for a little while, then something triggers the urge to re-read them. I just finished my 7th read of first and second chronicles, and also my third reading of runes. My first 2 readings of runes were pretty much back to back. The first time was rushed and I devoured it, then the second time I took my time. Kind of like .... never mind.

Anyway, my life : Born in Birmingham AL, Grad HS in 1984, went to Navy (Submarines) for 7 years, worked as a process engineer for 5 years, then went to College for BS in CSci. I started iQuest, my consulting firm 8 years ago, and it has done pretty well.

Liquor: Cap'n Morgan's (Diet Coke, Slice o' lime, 6 pieces of ice. )
Beer: Yes. Absolutely. Without question .
TV: The Sopranos, SurvivorMan.
Fav single Book:
The Eyes of Light and Darkness. Find this book and read it.

SF/F Book series I love and reread:
  • TCTC
Robin Hobb's Assassin, LiveShip Traders, and The Tawny Man triologies
    Jack Chalker's Well World Series
L.E. Modesitt's Recluse (Order and Chaos) Series.
Series I gave up on because they pi**ed me off:
Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time - I call it Waste of Time... if Egwen yanks her friggin braid one more time, I will restore the taint on both sides of the One Power....
(Sorry if I offended anyone, but it's my opinion and doesn't affect your opinion or say anything about what I think about you; I loved it during the first nine books, but then it just got to be too much. )
Terry Goodkind's Wizards First Rule - things just got to where I wasn't interested. Loved the first three, though.

Movies: ShawShank Redemption; Star Wars; River; many many more.

TCTC:
Fav character(s) : Hile, Foamfollower, Mhoram
Hated: Linden
Fav book: IEW
Worst: TOT - not sure why; I dread reading it, but can't put it down when I am reading it. I guess it is just so emotionially exhausting. ANd theres the whole time TC is a walking coma, and Linden's whining about possession is evil.

sorry for the long post.

Welcome to The Watch Eye. Nice to see another South African around, there's far too few of us here. (Even including you ex-pats.)

I'd mention the Think-Tank, but dAN already did it for me. :D (Thanks dAN. )

And thanks for the (re)-intro's danlo and iquestor. :)

Hello all!

Just registered here a day or two ago. Wow, what a cool site! You guys are doing a great job, and I think I'll stay awhile. :)

A bit about me: Well, I've done message boards for about 11 years or so now. I learned about this one from a member here. When I heard the name was "Kevin's Watch", I HAD to check it out!

I read the Covenant 1st and 2nd Chronicles starting back in 1984. I can't tell you that I "loved" them like I've "loved" other books, but there was something about them that inexorably drew me in and kept my attention. I just started "Runes" after discovering this board and finding out there are new Chronicles!!

I am 41 years old, married for 12 years now, two kids (10 and 7). I work at home, transcribing for a company that mostly does conference calls (my husband works for the phone company as an artist).

My "stats":

Favorite author: Stephen King
Music: ELO, Moody Blues, Alan Parsons, Pink Floyd, Foreigner, 70s, Beatles, the Who, Leslie Gore... lots more...
TV: Dr. Who, The 4400, The Dead Zone, Star Trek (any), All My Children, Outer Limits
Religion: Non-Christian, more Science of Mind, but Traditional Values
Politics: Conservative Libertarian
Radio: Mike Rosen, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, and sometimes, Art Bell (live from Manilla! Mwahahaha!)
Myers-Briggs Personality: ISTJ
Pets: 2 cats (Q and Khan)
Favorite Food: Chocolate, filet mignon
Favorite Drinks: Starbucks Breakfast Blend, Coke/Pepsi w/H2Oh, Earl Grey Green Tea

That's all I can think of right now.

I took a peek in the politics discussion and decided I'd probably be outnumbered there... LOL... so I may lurk more than post. I used to love to argue politics, but anymore, I just want some peace. I guess I'd rather find out what I have in common with someone than what separates me from them, although every now and then, you might see what my opinions are and either like me or hate me. Generally, I like to have disagreements without it getting personal, but alas... on most of the message boards now, it always does. :( I truly believe people can be good friends and vehemently disagree about many things. It's all about sharpening each other's wit and being respectful and polite... for me.

I can't drive. I was born legally blind and now I'm just "visually impaired", just enough not to be able to drive. :( So I'm home a lot... my husband is a great guy (53 years old), but he doesn't like to do a lot unless I DRAG him places... he's also a Christian and I'm not, which gets interesting sometimes... but we're both musicians, when the mood still hits us. *sigh* He reads Conan books and wasn't too impressed with TCoTC. I've got him reading the DT books ("Dark Tower VII" now), and he doesn't love them the way I do. Oh well. :)

I love puns and wordplay. I'm a tomboy. I need to exercise and diet more, especially since school's out and I'm not walking the kids the 1 mile to their bus stop right now (and walking back the other mile). I love nature and wish I could get out in it more.

Anyway, that'a sort of a snapshot of me. This is Chassit. This is 19. ;)

Hi. :)

Nice introduction!!

Welcome. :D
It'd take you a long time to blow up or shoot all the sheep in this country, but one diseased banana...could kill 'em all.

I didn't even know sheep ate bananas.

Welcome to the Watch Chassit. :D Great intro. I hope you've checked out the Steven King forum in the Library...

Well, that's pretty much what we try to achieve in the 'Tank. (Outnumbered by who?) I hope you will join us there, and takle the opportunity to see that compared to most places on the internet where politics are discussed, the 'Tank is a haven of peace and friendliness. (Ok, I'll admit that sometimes feelings are strong, but we behave ourselves pretty well the vast majority of the time. ;) )

Feel free to jump in anytime you like. We always welcome another point of view. :D

Yes, Chassit, welcome to the Watch, heh. We won't bite.

And yeah, like Av said, please feel free to speak your mind in the Tank. It's always good to hear from everyone on an issue. And we try to keep things mature. Like you said, sometimes it's unavoidable that people can get personal, but I think we're pretty good with dealing with it. We try not to tolerate those kinds of things.

The important thing is to have a thick skin and remember that this is just the internet, and not to let things bother you. But if there is trouble, you can count on us to help deal with it.

Plus, we have this great moderator for the Tank, some guy named Avatar or something. And he's all right... I guess... He mostly causes trouble, though. So watch out for him. Heh. ;)

Anyway, welcome again, heh.-jay

Well, that worked (yay!).

 Uh... well, I just perused a hot-topic at random, and read several pages of the thread, looking for someone who disagreed with the core, fundamental argument... and either didn't find any or just couldn't tell from what was said. In such situations, I grab a drink, stand back by the wall and do what I do best... observe, nod and smile. Every now and then I put down the drink and run over to do a bit of finger-wagging and opining, but I'm trying to restrain myself more these days. :)

Thankee-sai. I already have... just to get my toes wet.

You know, it's taken me many years to do that. Part of the reason I would get into heated arguments on the 'net, as I told a moderator RL friend on another board, is to actually make my skin thicker, which I badly needed. It's been several years now, so I think I've made some progress. You hang around on fora long enough, and you can alphabetize all the descriptions other posters hurl at you. Probably I'd hear nothing new, and nothing on the 'net would truly bother me after living this long (I am 41)... but I just want a li'l break, or at least some moderation (no pun intended).

(I do like the seeming lack of frequent "You're a f--king moron" or "all [liberals/conservatives] are brainless idiots who need to pull their f--king heads out of their m-----f--king..." type things on this site. Ah, a breath of fresh air!)

I have found the SK section and I'll probably lurk there quite a bit.

I'm impressed with the place. And thanks for the nice welcome.

Well, the reason for that, as we like to believe, is that as readers of a highly sophisticated and mature writer such as SRD, that we, as fans, are highly sophisticated and mature people as well. :P
