Robert Downey Jr is perfect for this role - if they work Stark's alcoholism into the plot, even as backstory, he will be able to bring the obsessive/self-loathing genius that Tony was during that storyline to life.
(Plus, whatever you think about Downey's personal troubles, the man made The Singing Detective believable, and managed to do Chaplin justice without parody. He can do anything.)

I may have said this before, but I believe he's one of the finest actors of our generation.

Gwyneth Paltrow has been signed to play Pepper.
Not a bad choice in my view. Her addition adds another excellent actor to the cast.

Not bad news. Lotsa star power, for sure.

Now Jeff Bridges added to the cast? Could this end up being a good film? That would be excellent. I am probably the biggest Iron Man fan on the Watch and it has always been a dream of mine to finally see the live action film of my favorite super hero. With the director and casting thus far I'm on the edge of geeking out.

Tom, have you seen the Iron Man animated feature that came out on DVD last week? It's pretty good.

I haven't seen it. I came close this past weekend as I saw it on the shelf at Blockbuster but I have every intention of buying the dvd regardless of the quality. (I try to collect as much Iron man stuff as I can afford.) I've seen a variety of clips and stills and I expect it to be a pretty good animated feature. I just have to make a quick run to Wal-Mart or Best Buy to solve the problem.

I bought my copy at Walmart, $14. The battles with the Eternals are great!

Hmm maybe I shall back-pedal on my Downey-poopooing ...
it looks good.
And Jeff Bridges in it too?!!!!
OK, engaging geek-out function...

Although I never read the comic, I thought I had a basic idea of what Ironman was about. But, when I see Stark standing up as he forges his mask, wearing some sort of glowing heartplug device, I start to think I know next to nothing. Maybe someone can splain.

I know the basic story but I'll defer to our resident Iron Man/Marvel comic experts.

Hmm...okay, I'm no Marvel Comics/Iron Man devotee, but - stating the blindingly obvious - I see it's not the familiar red and gold suit as seen in the comic books. Does the new grey suit reflect some profound change in the comic book? But hey, if it's okay with TOM, it's okay with me. (I'm not sure I will even see this movie. Depends on the reviews.)
