not the same book, yes, as he is linear(spelling) in plot. as he said. he does not do the time loop. some see his story from a different place, which is kind of cool, as that means the auther allows the reader to form their opionion(spelling) of the story. ah.. the reader is allowed to interpert the story. so the book I am reading is not the book he is writing, per sec, but we see what he writes in the story from a differenct place.

However true that may be, it didn't get much of an answer to your question.

no,not much, is true. But, the bottom line is he took time to read that insanely long post, thought it well put together and comment on it. The kindness he extended to me in that was wonderful. As I have read his books, since I got the first three from book of the month club, back in the early 70's, got all three for the price of one, god did he get screwed on making money, and I love them. Then have an author I hold in esteem and admiration comment at all is a wonder. I am 59 in Aug, funny health atm, ane have to wait to 2013 for the last book. gives me incentive.. well that sounds funny, but something to live for or such. that sounds funny to.. well you all get my drift.

Donaldson's responds to questions, either publicly or privately if he has your email. It just takes time. I don't think early '70s was the time frame you were thinking of. Weren't they published in 1977? You might have meant to say early '80s.

FWIW, I don't think you screwed him...IIRC, he said somewhere in the G.I. that he [all authors?] gets paid based on the actual cover price, whether it is sold for that price or not...so if the cover price was $5 per book, he got paid his percentage of $15, even if you got a deal.

On your post there though...in a way, I think you are being more linear than he is...because in your analysis the past is rigid, and ONLY have been one way it "really" happened.
In his version, the past has some flex, can stand some changes.

In my view, it is not necessarily so that the TW Covenant existed in the Arch the first time events happened. How the past happened is not set in stone, is not really "true" until the end of time. As each present and future thing happens, the past hardens...but will not be concrete until the world is finished.

the difference between evidence and sources: whether they come from the horse's mouth or a horse's ass.
"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
the hyperbole is a beauty...for we are then allowed to say a little more than the truth...and language is more efficient when it goes beyond reality than when it stops short of it.

on the publishiing of the first chronicles.. they were published or released 76 78 79, the second ones hit in 81 I think. on time is pretty stright. what has happen before leads up to the here and now. in his books we accept that thru his narritive. I was kind of looking into how the events not discussed equaled the present the story is not in. maybe something in the past, given time travel, will become part of the story in the future. I hope it is that group of navel seals that formed the first blood guards come from the past to pop three in the head of lord foul... jk..
