It is not so much that something is wrong. My guess is that we are benefitting from the hiatus that comes from her launching Undertow last weekend.

Every time I see that title I think of the Elizabeth Bear book... (Haven't read it, but will get round to it eventually, I like Bear's work.)

some folks were not happy I was coming to the last e-fest. seems my reputation precedes me.

I am quite not such a bother in real life.

I don't think you're a bother and I'd like to meet you someday, though the odds of me attending a fest are pretty small unless I wouldn't have to travel. (Hint, hint, SF fest.)

Let it go, Sarge. There is nothing to be gained by belaboring what may or may not have been misperceived by some before meeting you. You know that you were well-received in person and we look forward to you and Julie being there this summer.

Well, I suppose the biggest difference is that I've been more present in real life.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Indeed, good to see you here, Syl. Might we hope that this is not an isolated instance; that you will be seen here more often than the apparent total absence of recent months?

I don't think it's possible, in a place like this, to make thousands upon thousands of posts, in reply and relating to toics of discussion, and at the same time either hide or deliberately mislead as to who you really are. In the short term, a hoaxer may for example 'scam' another online user - but over an extended period the real you 'will out'. I can state catagorically, that the persona I 'project' here is just the natural 'default' persona of myself when I am relaxed. After all - we sit at a keypad and for the most part just let or fingers do the talking, almost like a form of 'automatic writing'. Without question, you guys on the Watch know more of me and my likes, dislikes, my knowledge, idiosyncrasies and eccentricities than any person I work with, from top to bottom.

And Hashi - I think I could pick you out of a hundred people if I heard you talking amongst yourselves for an hour and could wander at random through you listening. ;)

'Of course - you know you have.'

I suppose it is possible that you could, yes, but my audible words have no color so that might make it a little more difficult.

My Watch persona is probably a bit more cautious and wary than I am in RL. I very rarely post spontaneously and if there is any hint of contention in what I'm addressing I'll generally let it sit for a day and then go back and edit what I have to say in a more considered way. In saying that, anyone who is familiar with my posts in the Close or the 'Tank will have a fairly good idea of where I'm coming from.

It'll be interesting to see what people make of me at the 'Fest: I'm small (5' 5"), middle aged (45), obviously I have a Oirish accent, I'm not a teacher or a lecturer (but I have taught and I have an interest in sociology and literature), I'm currently working on my brother's farm (but I'm not a farmer), I write poetry and read lots of sci-fi and fantasy (oh! that they'll know! )

I'm with peter. I suspect I could pick you out in a group like that easy [unless, perhaps, you were intentionally trying to hide it...then it might take a bit longer].
I suspect I would be fairly easy to identify as well...

For those of us who have multiple user accounts is it possible, based solely on the content an frequency of the available posts, to identify the author's secondary identity?
