Layla is definately one of those songs you just can't hear too many times. It is definately a song that belongs on this thread.

It's Would?-but yes dennis my fav A&C song.

Layla by D & D is a masterpiece, Eric and Duane's interchanges - akin to fine champagne. It's also one of those songs like Cortez the Killer (Neil Young) and Inagaddavida that DJs love especially for when the girlfriend visits or to step outside to do something important...

Yes, Layla takes the cake. In the same vein, Blue Sky from the Allman Bros. album Eat a Peach has some equally brilliant guitar locking between Duane and Dickey...

I heard that Stephen Tyler could never sing it the same way again after his adenoids were removed. A really magical song.
Actually I thought this thread was about me :(

Oddly, I never understood the draw of this song.

Well, it has a very simple, beautiful, and haunting guitar sound, surrounded by lavish, melancholic production. The lyrics probably have more depth than anything else they recorded... and well the vocals-- perfect. absolute perfection.
Jackie Wilson, David Bowie, Al Green, Roy Orbison and a few others were able to achieve and record vocal perfection. With this song, Stephen Tyler joined their company.

"Talk talk" actually reshaped my definition of what rock-n-roll is.
Runners up would include "Poison" by the MC5, "I heard her call my name" by the Velvet Underground and "complication" by the monks.

Yeah, just not an Aerosmith fan at all. Oddly enough, my favorite song by them, "Lightning Strikes", was when Joe Perry left the band. My second favorite song by them, "Let the Music Do the Talking", was written by Perry as a F-U to Tyler.

Go figure.

"Dream On" always struck me as something that a teenager would doodle on his algebra book cover.

I partly agree...I like the song quite a lot, but it is in spite of the lyrics.
