I've never heard of that particular brand, but it'll probably be what I would call a scrumpy - a more traditional, less commercial (more 'love it or hate it') cider. If it is, it'll be cloudy and possibly flat.

Perhaps deglazing the drippings with one of the cider containers in the nine pack instead of with dry sherry would help bring the gravy in line with the beverage.

I've become a big fan recently - mainly Mercury, but I dont mind Bulmers and will give any of it a go - tried the scrumpy recently, not too bad ...

Well, I never convinced Hyperception to try the cider for Thanksgiving. However, the other night we came across a new offer in Publix. Mix and match any individual bottles in the beer section into a six-pack for $9.99. Not cheap, but a way to sample different things for $1.50/bottle.

I selected one each of the following:

Hornsby's Hard Cider
Woodchuck Draft Cider
Strongbow
...and for a change of pace, on drew's recommendation from a while back (at least, I think it was drew who recommnded it)
a bottle of Hoegaarden

Hyperception rounded the six pack out with a bottle of Pilsner Urquell and a bottle of Stella Artois

Now to decide what best to serve to enjoy each of them on the nights they are opened...

Sounds like a nice deal to me, Menolly. A four-pack of Strongbow costs $10 for me.

Unfortunately they don't have the four-pack now, just 500 mL cans sold separately. I bought two a couple of days ago, which added up to $8. But I hadn't had Strongbow in a long time, so I splurged.

Hope you enjoy the other drinks in the six-pack.

It might sound ignorant but may I ask how much you pay for a bottle of beer?

Over here a six pack usually has 0.33 (11 oz) liter bottles - that makes roughly 2 liters (67 oz) per pack. It costs about €3 which would be $4.3.

Imported beer usually is a bit more expensive but honestly, who needs imported beer in Germany?

Singles tend to run more. $1.50/bottle would be good even for swill like Miller or Bud, I think.

I am not a beer drinker though, so my guess that more upscale domestics tend to run $6.99/six pack is purely that: a guess.

My favorite market in town, Ward's, has a decent beer and wine department, especially for their selection of microbrews. With sales such as this week's $9.99 for a 12-pack of Warsteiner in the bottle which can not be beat locally otherwise. Especially for a German bier.

I'll need to go back and see what drew said regarding it in the beer thread a year or so ago, as I do not recall any mention of that. The only beer I have heard having similar done with is a slice of lime in a Corona. And I have heard that is really merely a thing misinformed gringos do.

It keeps the bar flies out doesn't it? Misinformed gringo or not, it does taste good! (and let's face it, Corona is a beer for us misinformed gringos who like their beer to taste ...um...NOT like beer!!!! )

Heh, yeah. I like Mexican beers because I can put a slice of lime in 'em. It cuts the thing in beer (whatever it is) that makes me shudder on the first sip....

A bad time to be out of UK! The government increasd tax on cider by 10% this week and there's a campaign against it, that i'm missing! I believe the Wurzels will be involved.....

I may have posted about this somewhere before, but once upon a time a bar near my original home [was the local college/artist/musician hangout, since gone yup-scale] served a drink that was locally-made hot hard cider that you dropped a shot of Jack into. Absolutely the most soothing drink I've ever had. Made everything tongue to toe to brain warm soft.
