I'm wondering if the candidates are a pool and candidates for either Jacob or MiB? Might explain some of the discrepancies? (Or, they haven't always planned this arc, and therefore having to bend the rules to meet with establlished canon ;) )

Nice page Way, thanks

That was interesting WF, thanks.
Sin, the pool is a nice idea, and in a strange way connects to something odd I've been thinking...I hate to bring geometry into this, but: as far as I could see, every "degree" in lighthouse had a name by it. [so 360 candidates, if rule holds...each mirror would "reflect" significant moment/place for all candidates]
The Island-tracking pendulum, of course, draws similar lines...so there could be a right place/right time relation for candidates, not only death. So, time/vehicle/person location/island location all have to overlap for a real candidate [so Jacob's touch doesn't select them, the selection happens and Jacob touches those he "approves" of]
I know this is a little weird, and I haven't followed all the implications...but the lines are drawn, and they connect island/candidates/Flocke/Jacob through time and space. [a sweep of the pendulum could select god knows how many...but only those who would be in the right place to end on island at some point would be viable]
About Sayid: I still have some hope for him. Sure, it seems he always ends up bad..OTOH, he always struggles against it, every time afaict. And it keeps flashing me back to Piers Anthony "And Eternity" where they're replacing God, and the replacement suffers and performs much pain and evil so that she is equipped for the job...can understand "mortals" struggles...which is why God needed replacing in the first place.
A bunch of blather...sorry, I do that.

i friggin hate this one episode a week crap.

[/rant]i never watched lost until a couple of months before this last season.
so when i started it, i watched 2 or 3 episodes a night from pilot to
last ep of s5. i'm used to getting more info in bigger chunks. this piddly one ep a week crap is like reading 2 pages of a novel a week.
i'm damn near tempted to stop watching altogether until the end.[/end rant]

speculations on who's going to end up being the new guardians of the island? its like freakin surVIVor. yeesh. who's getting voted off next week and the like. ugh.

i'm hoping the ending has little or nothing to DO with the stupid island. i hope NObody ends up in jacob or mib's places.
cause if this whole six season story ends up being solely about who the next "guardian of the stupid island" is, i'm gonna be seriously disappointed. :( serrrously.

I'm still a little disappointed in how they killed off all the other crash survivors in season 5. The show used to be about the group of survivors more than it was about the island.

2 things:

a) mr. liostro sir? being of a highly pro-active modly nature and all, could yerself think about stickie'ing the Lost thread? :D pretty please if i ask nicely?

and b) i know what i've kept meaning to bring up, and thinkin of ki the other day reminded me, what up about all this touched by jacob and how we all got to the damn island and purpose and sideways timelines and shit, 1) in regard to juliet?
and 2) somebody explain to me what would've occurred had juliet
not stayed, but got on the sub and left, when sawyer asked her to give it a couple weeks?

i ask because in retrospect i think she was an awesome character and i like thinkin about how she behaved in different situations as her own situation evolved. i think she (the actress) really expanded into that role and made it really, something more than what was maybe written. elizabeth mitchell is, also, just fun to watch. she's expressive and interesting. and i friggin loved her last scene with the bomb. :D

so will we see any jules sideflash stuff or...is she just...gone?

Considering her final words, we'll probably see more of her.

Your wish is my command. So stop commanding me already!
I'll keep it stickied until a bit after the season is over. It is this forum's bread and butter at the moment.

As for Juliet, the actress is working on V, so hard to say how much more we'll see her. I'm hoping we get more of Charlie as well.

Juliet, like Ben, would be alive in the sidewise timeline. And, like Ben, has a chance of being resurrected if/when the timelines are re-merged.

The pool? Didn't they mention that the pool "was never this color before" or something like that? That reddish brownish color has been there ever since. I think the pool got converted from a Jacob-claiming pool to a Mr. Loophole-claiming pool at some point. When Jacob died, or thereabouts.

Anyone thinking that Jacob isn't too put out by being dead? Not only do I think he's still fighting his nemesis, but it may even be all is going as planned.

Well, yeah. I thought that when he goaded Ben in the S5 finale. I keep thinking of precedents and the risks of manipulating (and lying to) those who truly believe in you.

Maybe he's become part of the Arch of Time?

You have to ask why he brought a plane load full of Candidates to the island at the same time. He must have known his replacement would be needed, and he's been working to make it so.

Got back to my rewatch after a couple weeks off it.

Meet Kevin Johnson - Michael attaches a suicide note to his chest and drives into the side of a shipping container, and survives. When he wakes up in hospital a nurse comes in with towels, and after a few words he realises it's Libby - she vanishes.

He buys a gun, and puts it to his head, but is interrupted by Mr Friendly. Friendly tells him that the island won't let him die, and leaves him to test it. When he tries to shoot himself, the gun doesn't fire. When he tries again, the news on the TV comes on with the discovery of 815 in the ocean.

Something about the way Friendly talks about it makes me feel like he might have first hand experience in the not being able to die thing.

Mr Friendly says that "some of us" can come and go off the island. We've seen Ethan, Richard, and Friendly do so. Ethan and Friendly were both (possibly) on the lists in the cave and lighthouse, and Richard is Richard. Do we know of anyone else who was allowed to come and go among the Others?

On the ship, when he goes to set off the bomb, Libby appears and tells him not to do it.

I wonder if Libby appearing to Michael is the same as Hurley's visitors.

At the end, Rousseau, Carl, and Alex are heading to the temple; Carl wonders if Ben is playing them again. Then they're ambushed. With all that I know now, I think Ben was playing them - he wanted Carl and Rousseau out of the picture, and believed at the time that the people from the freighter would not hurt Alex, so he sent them out where they'd be exposed and vulnerable.

Speaking of Mr. Friendly, I saw Sideways this weekend for the first time since seeing it in the theater. I was surprised to see Mr. Friendly was in it, and exposed his Lil' Mr. Friendly.

I forgot if this has been mentioned yet . . . mirrors. Every episode has one of our characters looking into a mirror. Sometimes they are on the right, sometimes on the left of the mirror, depending on which character we're looking at. Something to think about . . .

Overall, it was a pretty good episode. The "war" is getting closer. Sawyer's suitcase con had yet another interesting twist. I like the explanation, "I came to a point in my life where I was going to be either a criminal or a cop, and I chose cop." Same motivation (kill con man), but different pathway to achieving this goal. I also liked how Sawyer was playing both sides, Widmore and Smokey, and doesn't depend upon either to get himself off the island. It's nice to see him taking charge again, and done moping (not that he didn't have a pretty good excuse to mope :) ).

Regarding Jack, Richard and the dynamite in Dr. Linus ... so, in S1, when they went to the Black Rock to fetch the dynamite to blow open the hatch, the only one of them that needed to be careful handling the dynamite was Arnst ... I guess the dynamite is unstable.

Enjoyed the episode; things are moving slowly, but they're moving. I figured when Sawyer came back to Locke at the end that he was planning to just point Locke and Widmore right at each other and stand back. Nice thing is, he won't be breaking either of his deals by doing so.

I wonder who killed the Ajira survivors. Widmore explicitly denies responsibility, and Locke once again just doesn't say anything to indicate he knows what happened.

I wonder who came up with the code word LaFleur.

Things moved, but nothing happened. Just yet more characters. I was a bit disappointed.

Code word "LaFleur" was intriguing, though - I agree.

And the notion of Mr. Loophole having "mother issues".

I don't think we can rule out Widmore's killing the survivors, just because he denied responsibility. Glassesgirl (Zoe?) was the one who dragged the bodies away, and she's certainly Widmore's. I can't imagine Widmore cleaning up someone elses bodies.

Then again, I'm not sure if he had been on the island long enough for the bodies to decompose so badly. It's hard to tell how much time had passed. But still, I don't think it's enough time. So maybe Locke killed them so that they would not be around when Widmore arrived.

The big thing I see coming is: Sawyer seems like he agreed to be Mr. Loophole's "replacement" on the theory that Mr. Loophole would take him off the island in exchange. On the basis that the Island didn't really need protecting or something like that, so they might as well all go home. Not sure why a replacement is needed in that case. But if one isn't, then why offer Sawyer the job?

Anyway, Sawyer angling for that big piece of hardware in order to make like a tree isn't going to sit well with being any replacement.
