How do you feel today? v. 3.0
Moderator: Orlion
Hope you have a good day at the job, Nullo.
On my way to the shop today, I passed the finished outcome of some construction that has been going on for some months on the main street. It was so ugly. I really wonder how the city let them build that store front. To explain and put it in perspective, the main street in swedish small cities is full of shops, restaurants and so, but the shop fronts are all hundred to a few hundred years old. If people build a new front, they match the style of the rest of the streets shop district. This new front is one of those cheap, ugly multi colured cubist glass pane thingies. It really stands out on the street as not belonging.
Also, while walking to the shop, I saw a woman drop her two year old on her head accidentally. The sound was very nasty to hear. I thought the baby would be injured, but after some very loud screaming, the little girl was fine with just a scrape and what will become a bruise thankfully. I saw them in the shop later and the girl was running around and getting sympathy candy from mom. They sure are bouncier than I remember at that age!

We have one of those, Ananda, in Lincoln High Street. Right on the corner of the Cornhill, surrounded by old buildings is Barclay's bank, very blue and glass. We also have a Debenham's store in what was the yard of a raiway station. The whole complex is very tastefully done - the station front kept and all round it built to match it - except Debenhams, which is painted turqoise and is supposed to look like a ship! I'll see if I can find pictures.Ananda wrote:Hope you have a good day at the job, Nullo.

Bouncing - my grandaughter Kayesha (10 months) was bouncing away in a doorway this afternoon. She loves the contraption that hangs from the door lintel.

This is the old station, now Lakelands, at the entrance to the shopping centre.

And here is Debenham's, opposite Lakelands. Note the portholes and other ship like things. It is a monstrosity.

not happy, i can only imagine how bad the main kitchen is.

Ditto. We had 18 yesterday, back down to 14 today. I'm in a T shirt, but only because I've been cleaning the bathroom and just about to do the floor so I'm a bit hot at the moment.Zorm wrote:How cold is "cold"?Avatar wrote:Damn it's cold. Winter is finally here with a vengeance.

i was limping aroun dbadly at the end of the day, but i expected that. i need to build up endurance. and our new uniforms do not 'breathe' at all. i should lose some pounds just by sweating.Iolanthe wrote:If the kitchen was your only worry it couldn't have gone too badly.sgt.null wrote:well i survived the first day back. but the kitchen was filthy. i made one inmate scrub the floors.

I looked at Johannesburg's weather forecast. Day high +18C this week, that's Av's "damn it's cold winter".Iolanthe wrote:Ditto. We had 18 yesterday, back down to 14 today. It's 15 here now and cloudy. A really warm day! Tonight it will stay pretty warm as it will only get down to 9.Zorm wrote:I looked at Johannesburg's weather forecast. Over here, you can see people in tank tops and minishorts outside just now. Clearly we are either aliens or descend from frost giants.

If I ever come here complaining about winter's revenge, it'll have been -28C or colder for 3-4 weeks in row, including a meter of snow.

Hey Av, how's that KW Automatic Celsius-to-Farenheit Converter coming along, anyway?
It's 84 (29) right now here, going up to 88 (31). Low of 72 (22) tonight. It was stinkin' hot over the weekend -- in the 90s (32+). I pretty much stayed inside with the a/c cranked.
Saw the dentist with Batty this morning. Suspicions confirmed -- it'll cost $10K+ out of pocket to get her teeth fixed. I should be getting a written estimate from the dentist later today. I've already fired off an e-mail to her dad to ask him to pick up part of the cost. Not holding my breath, but it's worth a shot.
Sarge, glad you survived your first day back. Here's to your continued survival!

You guys are so funny.
And your weather report was wrong Zorm.
It didn't hit 18 here, that's for sure.
Today's temps are -1°C & 15°C. That's damn cold.
This past weekend, the daytime highs were 10°C. That's about as cold as it gets where I am. (In terms of maximum temperatures.)
We spent the weekend in bed with the electric blanket and a bunch of movies.

ali - all it took was some 3 or 4 hours of sleep when i first got home, two pain pills, one anti-inflammatory pill and one heat patch on the ankle.
all that and i can barely limp around the house.
i am really praying that i build endurance quickly.
and the place was filthy, spent all day cleaning. well the inmates cleaned, i told them what to do. i love being a supervisor.

Too much too soon Sarge. Can you sit a lot? Do you still elevate your leg?
I had a late night last night - my 3rd powerpoint presentation, the venue in Northamptonshire, about two hours away. I'm getting to be a dab hand with the zapper. Gearing up now for the Annual General Meeting on Saturday. I have to give a "President's Address" - it will be short. The previous president gave a half hour lecture and I'm determined not to follow his example. By tonight the photocopying will be done and I will have 90 books to bind. Once that's done I can look forward to several weeks free to do some of my own research.
My "Mirror" books should arrive any day now so I can take some time off to read. Oh Joy!

Drove back from Batty's this morning. Stopped on the way home to run and errand and vote in the primary. I'm supposed to be doing some editing now....
