Sounds like she needs a good whack up the head. Why can't she bring her own snacks????
Give her warm water and lemon in a crystal goblet.

I'ts been a very boring Sunday!

About a week ago my boss said he had an electronic keyboard I can have. It was a Yamaha PSR-74 (49 key). Unfortunately it was caked with soot. It may have been close to a bonefire of some kind.

Anyway, to clean the keys I had to open up the outer casing and dismantle the keyboard fixture that holds them all in place. Then I found more soot inside the speaker grill. To clean that up, without damaging the speaker cone, it meant removing it from the casing. The pcb's, buttons, and volume unit I removed as well because there was also some soot on the inner casing too.

It took about two hours, washing the keys and wiping down the casing and
fixtures in a basin of soapy water. And now I'm tired out - mostly through
boredom - and will do the assembly tomorrow night after work.

No idea if the thing works yet. It takes six of those big chunky batteries, and came without the ac adaptor. I can't afford the batteries until next week.

It will be good if the thing works. I can take it back to the shop and maybe get a fiver for it.

Like I said, it's been a very boring Sunday!

 Oddly enough (or not), she often doesn't bring snacks at all -- she leaves it to the rest of us. Anyhow, I stopped at CVS and got some raw almonds, which seemed to pass muster.

Debating now whether to go back to editing. Probably will. Hoping to get to bed at a decent hour tonight, tho -- gotta go to work in the morning...

I have had an interesting day.
I got up early to drive to Taegu, which is a major city about an hour from where I'm living, so that I could apply for a residence card (similar to a green card in the US). Everything at the immigration office was so efficient, we were in and out in ten minutes.
Then I taught during the afternoon, and had two new students.
After work, my boss and her husband took me and my coworker out for dinner. We ate at a traditional Korean restaurant, which means we sat at a low table with a griddle in the middle, had a bunch of little bowls of different foods to share between us, and we basically cooked and assembled our own food. The food we ate included: pork, garlic, pickled radishes, pickled onions, Chinese cabbage, sesame leaves, peppers, salt mixed with sesame oil, some sort of red pasty sauce (I didn't understand what they called it), shrimp (with the eyes still on them! 8O ), and peppers. After we finished this, we had bibimbap (veggies mixed with rice and red pepper paste) and some sort of soup that was too spicy for me to eat (I noticed it contained crab, tofu, and green onions, among other things).
When we finished eating, my boss and my coworker coerced me into experiencing a noraebang (basically a private karaoke room). I'm not very much of a singer, but I still had fun (don't tell some of my friends that--they'd never let me live it down--karaoke is one of those things I tend to dread). It probably helped that there were just three of us in the room, so there were very few "solo" performances, and the solo performances had a minimal audience.
What a day!

Fantastic! Had a walking/coffee date with a girl at Boarders. She was twice as lovely as her pictures, 5'9" (this is important, since I'm 6'2", and very stylish (which is all right, I suppose). She was wearing some kind of cute fur boots. We got along talking pretty well. At one point she asked me if I was a partier, which I assured her I wasn't but always willing to be sociable; to which she told me she is a bit of one. :P

She also asked me if I had any tattoos, which I don't. To which she told me she was "covered" but only where you can't see. She lifted her jacket to trace the line where one ran along her side. Hope I find out more about it.

Auleliel, gosh I'd love to be you right now! What an adventure (and I looked at your pics on facebook--they're great!).

LF, good luck with that private tattoo viewing.

As for me: meh. Nothing to complain about. Hoping Mr Seareach is going to be offered a job at a different Heritage consultancy firm. He hates who he's currently working for (and I hate hearing about how much he hates who he's working for!). But, yeah: I'm rooting for him getting this job and (hopefully) more money!!! Unfortunately it's still in Melbourne CBD, so still the 4 hour commute per day but, well...ya can't have everything!

My cord broke off of my iPod player (called an iGroove). I looked it up, found the company was offering half of the cord for $28 + shipping, and another place was selling a full cord that looked a bit different for $13, but no shipping. The wife convinced me to pick up the cheaper, and after waiting a month with no player, it finally arrived and did not work. Now I've ordered from the actual company, and now will have to wait probably another month with no way to play my music at work. I really only use it once a week, but damn it is nice, and I've been sorely missing it. I'm just annoyed that we were taken by this cheapy place out of Hong Kong selling cords that are supposed to be replacements for this specific cord, but do not work. And if I go through the return process (which they didn't have up on their website at the time of ordering), it looks like I will only get about $2 back at the maximum, which isn't worth it to me.

Incidentally, if such a problem with cords happens again to anyone, I might be able to help. If nothing else, I can find out if the seller's crap.

IterestingInfo1: On Ebay, if a seller provides free shipping on all of their items, they get an automatic five-star rating in the "shipping" category.

IterestingInfo2: Some sellers don't even have the product they're selling, they just "know" where to get one for cheaper than they sold it to you for.

This was a new place (called zlectronics), which should have been my first clue. I did search around the web for any negative reviews, but there were no reviews. So I took a chance. I'm out only $13, but it is mainly the time waiting that I am bemoaning.

If you have another way of checking if a seller is crap, I'd love to hear it.

There are a few indications. They do not exclusively weed out just bad sellers, but they are clues. If they do not have a picture of the product, or if that picture is a stock photo, they probably don't have it. New sellers are suspect, but all sellers were new once. If its foreign based, best to avoid it.

You can also look for completed listings of the product you're looking to buy to get an idea of what they've sold for and what people are trying to seal them for.

While crossing the street today at a brisk pace, my ankle gave out. I crashed flat to the ground on some ice, my knee and hands taking the brunt of my (generous) weight. My hands are scuffed and hurt, but my knee is worse for the wear. It was bleeding a bit and is turning black and blue. Strangely, it doesn't hurt.

Then I got home and found this message from my sister: "So last night I had a strange dream. I know this is random and all but you were in it so I thought I'd let you in on it. :) So back to the dream......long story short I found out you were adopted. Yea strange. Love you."

hahahahaaaa

I'm going to try my damnedest to get some knitting done tonight. I cannot tell you how many knitting projects have failed because my son finds them and ruins them. I need new stuff to put up in my etsy store. Maybe I should make a shameless plug post here. Hmmmmm......

Jaz, I think you just did. When one of our cats was a kitten, and I was learning how to knit socks on double-pointed needles, I put down the sock I was working on next to me on the couch to do something. When I turned back and looked down, the kitten had sunk his tiny, needle-sharp teeth into one of my skinny bamboo sock needles and was pulling it out of the sock. After chasing him away, I picked up the sock to try to put all those little teeny stitches back on the needle -- and discovered he'd already pulled out one needle before I caught him.  I still use those needles, despite the fact the one end of one is kind of chewed...

Sooo, Magickmaker's in her final semester of college, and she is over dealing with the administration there, and so am I. Exhibit 1: In settling up her bill for the final semester, I looked over the last few months' statements and noticed that $500 had disappeared from her account sometime in early December. So I sent an e-mail to the business office Monday. Having heard nothing by yesterday, I called -- no answer, left voicemail for the woman. Having still heard nothing today, Magickmaker went by the business office. Turns out the woman had screwed up an entry *last* year, when Magickmaker pulled $500 out of her account for books and stuff -- instead of debiting her account in spring 2010, she debited it in spring 2011. Oh, and the reason we didn't hear back is that this woman had been too busy on some project or another, so she *hadn't checked her e-mail or voicemail*. For two whole days. I think I need a job like that....

Exhibit 2: Magickmaker finally got around to declaring her minor in psychology this week. After she put in the paperwork, she got an e-mail from the registrar, saying she was missing a required class -- which Magickmaker tested out of in her freshman year. She called the registrar and told her this; Registrar Lady said it wasn't on her record, so she'd have to talk to the head of the Psych Dept. and get him to sign a letter that she had in fact tested out of the class. Psych Dept. head wasn't in. So Magickmaker goes over to the registrar's office and asks the person there whether they keep the test scores. No, the person says. "But I have them," someone in the next office says. In the meantime, Registrar Lady walks out of her *own* office -- which is, like, three doors away from the office of the woman who has the test scores. Seriously? You're going to make the girl run all over the freaking campus to get a piece of information that you could have gotten yourself by hollering out your door?

Love the update to your avatar, Sea! That's totally awesome. Ali, university offices are a nightmare. When I was trying to get my tuition set up at the UofO, the woman in the admin office was so difficult that I finally sent my stepfather in to talk to her directly since she was adamantly not going to approve my family of employee tuition rates. Ridiculous. He basically had to be like, I am faculty, this is my stepdaughter, here is my identification and I have already signed all the appropriate paperwork.

Anyway, since I started at the new store, one of the assistant managers, Edward, has not really figured out what to make of me or how to take me. Lately he's been taking to sort of chest thumping bullsh-t in a vain attempt to prove his dominance over me. Tonight he was just plain mean. I had witnesses to both incidents and one he simply spouted over the walkie so everyone heard. I had brought in homemade cupcakes, red velvet with cream cheese frosting and everyone was piping up about how great they were and how sweet of me to bake for them and then he pipes in about how the cake was good but it had too much frosting for his tastes. No thanks for bringing them, just a criticism. He got the whole team riled up in my defense. They were pissed at him and he made himself look like an ungrateful ass. The two associates that were with me in the copy center earlier when he was talking to me like I was an idiot were up in arms when they heard him dis my cupcakes. I was worried they might start a lynch mob. I told them not to worry about it because I'm not. Anyway, the rest of the night was nice and smooth and now I am chilling before bed and work again tomorrow.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....
