That will never happen. Seriously, though; I'd like to see a title that catches my attention, and while Joy's may be factual, it doesn't grab me at all.
Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion
I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.

What exactly would "grab" you? "Tales of Bloody Mayhem: Captures and Abductions of dANs and everyone that looks like dAN!"
"Snares and Traps: Stories with glue"
"KEVIN'S WATCH ANTHOLOGY: TALES FROM STEPHEN R. DONALDSON AUTHOR OF THE CHRONICLES OF THOMAS COVENANT (disclaimer: the stories within these pages may or may not have been written by Stephen R. Donaldson and most likely were written by people who wish they could write on a level near par with that of the aforementioned famous author but have not been gifted with 1/100th the talent or ablility of Mr. Donaldson. We therefore appologize for this unfortunately titled book.)"

I have no interest in having my name in the title, Tom. I'm just trying to think of a way to catch the attention of the average cafe press fantasy/sci-fi book purchaser....I'd use Drool Rockworm's Bedtime Stories if I thought that would work.

I think dAN makes a very good point. Why should we be afraid of catchy titles? I love all the suggested titles by Khaliban, TOM and dAN.
Perhaps Edge's cover design (whatever that will be) will compensate for the blandness of the chosen title? The title itself may not catch the eye, but Edge's art surely will.

I predict that no one will care what its called once its published and available. It could be the biggest selling POD in the history of cafepress.com if every member of the Watch gets one. I doubt most PODs sell more than 25 copies.

When you get into clever, original titles, you're getting into an area of varied tastes. What attracts one person totally, will put another off. There are any number of clever titles we could choose, several among those already mentioned. But rather than open up that area of disagreement, we decided on something that would be easy for our largest audience -- Watchers -- to find.Matrixman wrote:Why should we be afraid of catchy titles?
I am indeed counting on Edge's cover to catch the eye of browsing non-Watchers.
[Edit: Besides, Avatar's poem "The Watch" is the perfect opener for the book.]

Looking back on this thread, I see we already discussed the title thing, and there was no real consensus. So, while I'm pro-catchy title, I'm willing to forget about it, if most of us agree that Joy's title is fine. However, I would be all for a title discussion between the selected authors, submission commitee people, and editors. Of course, that may be what's happening already.....i
If we wanted a title based on one of the stories, then I'd go with "Sandcastles'. Also, "The Story and Other Stories" appeals to my sense of inanity
. In any event, I don't want to hold up the book, so if it's ready to go to print, then let's get it done.

It's a fine title. It's just a name, anyway. Names have no meaning. See the trees in the courtyard, gently swaying to and fro....ommmmmmm.....

My thoughts exactly.Dragonlily wrote:When you get into clever, original titles, you're getting into an area of varied tastes. What attracts one person totally, will put another off.
I've said this before, but I think it bears repetition: We are the only people who will buy it. Why would anyone buy an anthology of stories written by the members of a random message board, particularly with absolutely no guarantee that the contents won't be rank bilge? It doesn't matter how catchy the title is - this whole project is significant only to the people who are currently discussing it.dANdeLION wrote:I'm just trying to think of a way to catch the attention of the average cafe press fantasy/sci-fi book purchaser

Family and friends of Watch members might also want to puchase a copy.
And don't forget that some people might purchase several copies to give to family members and friends.
I was going to inflict several copies upon members of my husband's family for Christmas this year.
Perhaps that will wait for next year, though, depending upon publication schedule.
