True about John Astin, but he did make a good turn in Night Court that helped me forget at times he was Gomez. Then again, I didn't watch Night Court all that much.

I'm guessing it's more common for TV actors, rather than film actors, to be typecast (those on popular shows, anyway) because once they get a good role, that's basically all they do for the rest of their acting career. And who could blame them? A steady paycheck, a familiar day-to-day working environment...fortune and happiness, assuming they survive the drugs and know how to get on with their lives after their show is cancelled. :P

Ok, I have this image of this guy in mind, here's how typecast he is, I can't think of the name but I can think of his image and he's dark haired, probably late forties, early fifties, really pock marked skin and I can see him in a military role yelling about getting those people out of there. Can't poinpoint him in a specific military or cop role but they kind of equate in my film mind. He usually plays a captain or someone of authority, he's been in tons of films and probably some tv. Strong jaw, heavy but equiline nose, dark eyes, very authortative. Gah, I hate that. He's in shape, nice voice...shise....very thin hair and a receeding hairline but not super bald. Any suggestions? I seem to think he was in a film with sylvester stallone but I checked all the rambo ones and couldn't find it....HELP ME

How about Robert Davi (Goonies, Die Hard)? He's certainly a member in the league of men-with-unfortunate-skin.

Sorry, Jenn, I'm drawing a blank as well. The last Stallone flick I saw was Demolition Man waaay back in the '90s. Don't recall any actor in that movie bearing your description. Hmm, the Stallone films I've seen:

The Rocky films up to IV
Cobra
Cliffhanger
Demolition Man
Judge Dredd (parts of)

It doesn't help that there are always big, thuggy guys in Stallone's movies. It's like, do you mean the third one on the left or the last one on the right? :)

How about Jerry Mathers, Butch Patrick and Billy Mumy. (I know Bill was in B5 but come on. Wil Robinson) :-) Of course that could be the child actor curse. I dunno.

I dunno....Billy Mumy did a couple things as a child actor that stick out for me. Does this ring any bells from a Twilight Zone episode?

"You're a bad man...a very bad man....I'm going to send you to the cornfield."

He was also the kid in the one about his grandmother dying soon after giving him a toy telephone, and he kept talking to her on the phone after she was dead. He tries to drown himself or something, and the dad gets on the phone while they are trying to revive him and yells into it about letting him go...he's just a little boy. And he recovers miraculously.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnd....he was one of the Barnes & Barnes guys...know...they did that song Fish Heads.

Fish heads, fish heads
Rolly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads
Eat them up, yum

I don't think I'd recognize this Sam Elliot without the mustache.

Then you aren't old enough to know he was in the last year (or two) of Mission Impossible back in the early 70's. No mustache then.

But you're probably right about today.

Jason Alexander - he'll never get away from George Costanza.
Michael Richards never had a chance either, even if he hadn't pitched that racist fit in a nightclub.

Probably not him, but if you're talking about pockfaced, typecast actors, there's definately Danny Trejo.

And Jennifer Aniston should be mentioned. I refuse to link a pic.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
