Nav wrote:Some great interpretations going around in here, the Sandgorgons remain my favourite of all the creatures we meet in TCTC, I love any example of form following function and the way Nom was described always screamed that to me.
My actual vision of what Nom looks like however, has been heavily influenced by the design of the old-style Warhound Scout Titan from Warhammer 40k. It's a strange comparison, but if you check out this picture you might see what I mean:
The reverse-jointed legs, spiny carapace and weapons with a not un-battering ram-like aspect all caused me to think of the baby War Machine as soon as I read Nom's description. All I had to do was give it a HR Gieger aspect and focus on the details of the head (and obviously scale it down from its 25 metre height!) to get the Nom I see in my mind's eye.
While I have no idea what a Warhound Scout Titan is, or even what Warhammer 40k is, I do agree that I see some logic to your comparison. The backbent legs have been difficult for me to picture; this seems to fit the bill perfectly. See you, Blackhawk? Perchance this malign form will aid you in your final attempt at Nom. Man, I LOVE Giant-ese!!!!

I have new feet for NOM, and they are fairly similar to what i see above...but more flat and pad like rather than actual feet. three toed also but not protruding toes..the last render i did of the sandwall doesnt really show any of his changes..i made him a little bigger...and his stumps are more batteringram like,
that aside ive been thinking of a scene...and it starts like this.
"Heard my ears aright?" she murmured in stern irony as she lifted the longsword from its mounts, hefted it to ascertain its balance. "Did the gaddhi not grant me this glaive?" The falchion's edges were as keen as the light in her eyes. Her mouth tasted names for this blade.
its on my upcoming list
Seareach and Coerci are killing me.

....Its going to be done soon i hope. but making a giant city is alot more extensive than i thought it would be, Ive been spending more time on the surrounding landscapes than the actual city itself lately, but every good step forward gives me hope that i will get what im looking for soon enough. once its done i will be able to concentrate more on characters so i can create scenes for them.
someone recently posted new art in the Laborium also,
Rocksister...yeah ..ive read Runes but still havent read Fatal Revenant, I will eventually read it ...i think I had Runes on Audio for over a year before i finally listened to it..and then i bought the book a couple months ago at the same time i got FR. I want to read it but I have so much occupying me now with the artwork that i have been able to put it out of my mind if not only for lack of time.

I have been noodling in that department, including pooring over descriptions, if you need any ideas bounced off of someone.

I've been badgering jwaneeta to post her art, and she's finally started. It doesn't mean I don't like your art ... it only means I don't need to pester you.
We've never had an official Stephen R Donaldson art repository before -- now we have the only one in the world!!!! -- and it's about time her stuff got the honor it deserves.

Wayfriend...thanks for the offer, I appreciate it and look forward to some ideas or things i may have missed, on any of my work.
Ive been looking through some descriptions..mostly the Illearth war, and Koriks mission to Seareach. it says..mountains to the west....the sarangrave and foothills to the south, sunbirth sea to the east..but doesnt say whats to the north..I thought possibly north of Seareach the coastline curved westward?
also the city itself..it mentions "the side facing inland" ? so the city and cliffs face the ocean-East but part of the city faces inland? workshops and meeting halls on the upper level facing west? then three tunnel entrances to the cliff dwellings and main city itself..north middle and south.I have the ocean side of the city carved into a cove with a large covered hall entrance to the docks with bridges leading from the cliff dwelling to the center hall (inspired by the artwork in realms of fantasy's Coercri.) ive got alot to do still..but once the cliff dwellings and walkways are carved i will show my progress.

Holy cow, Blackhawk, I just re-read your post and somehow I missed that you planned to do the scene where the First of the Search arms herself in Braithairealm!!!! What an awesome scene, her and her comrades surrounded by riches and treasure all around, displayed on mounts and in cases, running to escape, but preparing to fight. I can just see her, tall, strong, beautiful but stern, iron-gray hair mixed with black, dressed kind of like Xena Warrior Princess (or however SRD says, I forget), pausing just long enough to utter my sig line, tasting the balance of her new falchion, eyes a-glitter with hints of danger and threats. Jeez, that will be a GREAT artisitic rendering, and I would almost ask you to send it to me via PM and let me use it as my avatar, since the one I have is all wrong with regards to her dress and coloring. I anxiously await this one, even moreso than the others, which are AWESOME.

absolutely..its yours....as your avatar would you like to see her "tasting names for this Glaive"? or wielding it?
either way she will be doing both eventually.

Blackhawk, I see her in the Tier of Riches with the others near her. She's standing in front of the display stand where she just lifted the sword, holding it in front of her eyes. (Kind of like Aragron in LOTR when Elrond brought him the re-made sword) She has a seriously bad-a** look on her face, like promises of threats in her eyes. Her feet are planted shoulder-width apart, thigh, calf, and arm muscles tensed in preparation for fighting. I see her with waist-length dark hair with lots of iron-grey mixed in. I also see her with grey eyes, a very rare eye color. She's very strong, very lean and muscular. I see her face kind of like Brigitte Nielsen's. Tan skin due to sailing all her life. Since she's a warrior, she'd be wearing some armor and/or chain mail and leather stuff with arcane symbols of some kind on the breastplate. Her shield would be on her back, but if you could see it, it would be engraved/carved over its entire surface. Pretty vivid imagination I've got, huh?

Forgot about the sword; since she's a warrior, she would not likely be attracted to a blade with inlaid gems and such; this would be a practical blade, but I don't recall how detailed SRD's description of the sword was. I guess you'd have to use his idea, but I don't see her picking out a fancy-looking thing. Sharp, heavy, straight, with a thick hilt and guard. But still pretty plain.
