Wow.
I haven't thought of The Sword & the Sorcerer in so many years.
What I remember most is the hero's sword (can't remeber his name), but the sword had 3 blades on it, and if I remember right, 2 of the blades propelled and shot off of the sword.
Definately pretty cool from way back then. It had to be around 1982 or so, huh?

variol son wrote:Labrynth, The Neverending Story, and Willow. And The Dark Crystal of course. Classy stuff. Have never seen Ladyhawk.
You've never seen Ladyhawke?
It's a beautiful story and well worth investing the time. Please go rent it. No, go buy it.....I don't you'll regret it. Isabeau and Captain Navarre have to be one of the most romantic couples to ever be dreamed up.

If it's as good as the other four, then it's definately worth it. I'll pop down to Alice's in Videoland tonight.
Great Childhood Fantasy Film Memories
-"Dance Magic Dance" (Labyrinth)
-The Masquerade Ball (labyrinth)
-The death of Artex (The Neverending Story)
-The Southern Oracle (The Neverending Story)
-The Empress speaks with Atreyu and Bastion (The Neverending Story)
-Fen Rizel becomes human again (Willow)
All that and more. Ah, fantasy film was so much better back then.

I'm quite fond of Willow, too. Ah, memories of the Eighties...the good stuff, that is.
Willow also happens to be one of the very few movies starring Val Kilmer that doesn't suck.

While we are on the topic of the best...
The worst fantasy movie that I think that I have ever seen was back around 1983 or so, titled 'Yor, Hunter From the Future'.
I remember this specifically, because me & my cousin went to go see one movie that had sold out. Spies Like Us, I think. (McComb, Mississippi, I think the theater only held like 35 people). So, instead of going home, we decided to check this one out, since it was at the same theater and had the same start time, and we had travelled about 30 miles to get there.
Absolutely the worst movie that I have ever sat through in a theater.

Ha ha, good ol' Yor! Didn't see the movie, but I remember the ads for it. Sure looked goofy. I think it starred the same actor who played Captain America in that early 80's TV version.
You had to travel 30 miles to the nearest theatre?

I was staying at my grandmother's house outside of Tylertown, Mississippi...basically BFE.
There is / was no theater there, so we had to drive to McComb, MS.

I think one of the worst fantasy films had to be Legend with Tom Cruise. What was that all about?

They look like big strong hands, don't they? I always thought that's what they were.

- The Company of Wolves
- The Nuts for Cinderella (watching this on TV is a Christmas ritual in some European countries)
www.imdb.com/title/tt0070832/
- Ronja Röverdotter (for children, but I just love the story)
www.imdb.com/title/tt0088015/
I don't know if you get the last two in the US, but they're great, especially if you have kids!
By the way, has anybody seen the "Brothers Grimm" movie? I'm looking forward to this one (is has just started in theaters here).
