Read Pern through Nerilka's Story, then Dragonfly in Amber came in from my hold at the library. I see myself renewing the Gabaldon several times to wade my way through it...

Finished those two Chapters of The White Dragon, and now moved on (As Menolly guided me, and fortunately, the first two chapters of The White Dragon are contained in full on the first disk, so much easier to pick straight up to Ch 3, when I return to it) to DragonDrums, and have finished the first couple chapters (Poor Pymer...)

Yeah, it sounds tough for a singer that was as good as Piemur to lose his postion and have to settle for being a message drummer out of the entertainment spotlight. I enjoyed his story, and most of the Pern books. Good stories, and characters I have come to love!

heh, not necessarily the singing part, but, the Wheeling/dealing and good natured scheming and inquisitiveness of Piemur, reminds me of several kids I ran with I was younger

I'm reading Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. Pretty likely to win some awards this year.
A friend sent that to me. Haven't started yet, but seems like something I will like.

I just finished Way Station, by Clifford D. Simak. Didn't know until just this second that it won the Hugo in 1964. I read it because I thought it was another psionic book. There is a psionic aspect, but only a small one. It's about a guy from the American Civil War who is chosen by an alien to be the keeper of a new way station the intelligences of the galaxy want to build on Earth. Pretty good book. More philosophical than scifi.

Just finished Shadows in Flight, by Orson Scott Card. It is the last of the parallel series to Enders Game that features Bean.

On deck is Earth Unaware, a prequel to the whole thing.

Finished Dragonfly in Amber, have put holds on Dragonsdawn, Voyager, and a new to me Pern book, The Dragon Lovers Guide to Pern at the library. The guide supposedly has a short story in it called Impression, which is not on the chart from Anne's site, but is listed in the published order on wikipedia. So, I'm looking forward to reading a Pern story I haven't read before.

Got Terry Pratchett's Bromeliad trilogy this weekend, Truckers, Diggers & Wings in one volume, so read that quickly.

Now I'm on my reread of the Last Chrons, so busy with Runes of the Earth by some guy. :D

Finished The Mote in God's Eye by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. Quite good first contact novel. Most modern-day publishing houses would, no doubt, make at least three books out of it. Very solid story and it actually is probably told too briefly. I've read a Niven and Pournell before (Footfall) and I enjoyed that as well.

Also finished Blood Music by Greg Bear. Checking on Wiki it turns out that it's one of the first references to nanotechnology in science fiction. I've enjoyed a number of Bear's books before, especially Darwin's Radio and Darwin's Children. Whatever its influence Blood Music shows it's age and doesn't really hang together that well.
