I love you Sarge and I mean that literally. Efest before last when we were all wondering where you were and I said I had your cell and everyone looked shocked was amusing, but the looks on faces when I told them you had been a really amazing advisor and compassionate listener when I was going through shit and we had a friendship outside of the watch was priceless, for that I say thanks you big teddy bear, for you and your wife being awesome people.

Av, your own post said it all... BASE... BASE a show on a book, not recreate the book word for word, event for event, character for character. A book is a very personal interpretive experience using your own imagination and experiences with someone else's creation. This is also true for a movie. The difference is that when you read the book you are reading the author's creation in writing and taking away from it what speaks to you based on your personal life experiences and thought processes and when you see the movie you are watching another fan's interpretation of the same author's creation. They will never be one and the same but if you love them for their individual interpretations of the same story you will seldom be disappointed. Quit being so literal, rigid and purist and you will get way more enjoyment out of the artistic interpretations of the things you love. If you need living proof then think about how much SRD loved FBH. It was our interpretation of his book and nothing like the actual book but I still get fan mail on a regular basis and he loved my parody so much he and I became friends, I even went to his wedding. Free your mind.

And Av, sorry, yes it seems like I directed that rant at you but it was actually directed at every fanboy/girl in the world that nit picks movies based on books that they find lacking. A book is a book is a book. A movie is a movie is a movie. Every writer you read will tell you that they were thinking and living a different life when they published and they look back and see their own book differently now. It's also why we discuss, to get different perspectives on the same novel/movie. If we think the movie should be our mental image of the book then we will be forever disappointed and if we think of it as a creative imagery of a book we love then we have a much more open mind and Av, probably find it more interesting and be happier with the experience.

Stop picking on Av, Jenn! You know how sensitive he is and that he's not able to take it!

I can take films like LOTR for what they are because they stay true to the spirit of the books (which is not the case with the Hobbit films

). I also find this to be so with the 'Game of Thrones' series. Yes, a character like Tyrion mightn't be exactly like he is in the books, but he's close enough to the character in spirit and that's more than enough for me. Maybe I'm not enough of an elitist, literary snob! (Try telling that to lucimay though!

)

I tried to read A Game of Thrones four times before I finally finished it (and then only because I was preparing to watch the series (imagine my surprise at the end!

)). Then I watched the first series and was bored because I knew everything that was going to happen. After that I watched the series before reading the books and that's working out much better. The series is excellent, IMO, and I have been gobsmacked more than a few times (which is so rare for me with any kind of TV these days that I count it as a real achievement), and I have come to like characters that I would never have believed likeable, and come to dislike characters that I previously liked.

That kind of level of immersion in the world of the characters because of the quality of the writing, acting and production is the real strength of contemporary TV series. I find many TV series now to be far superior to most of what is on offer in the cinema. Time for cinema to up its game!

Now if we could only get them to do some of SRD's work!

Av is tough, you won't see any sissy tears falling from that Mohawk sporting maniac.

So, Lady Tam and I decided to step it up a notch in our GOT dinner night. Tonight we made Drogon shepherd's pie and angel food cake with sugar glazed mixed berries and homemade heaven cloud whipped cream in honor of the little shepherd girl whom Drogon ate.

Of course the berry glaze represented her blood and guts but hey, I have a sick sense of humor. Next week will be even worse. The menu theme is the downfall of Theon so grilled sausages, potatoes with leeks (rhymes with Reek), Greek salad and for dessert.... cream puffs. The following week will be the Red Wedding Dinner so spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread drizzled with marinara, salad and red velvet wedding cake for dessert. Life is good.

The nitpicking usually gives me far more pleasure than whatever reworked travesty of the authors original vision they serve up for the masses.

(Actually not much of a fanboy to be honest. Literary purist though,...sure.

Yea, I don't much care for the "but X is different from the book!" I mean, duh, the book was printed on pages and the show/movie was filmed on celluloid. Merely by changing mediums, you have changed the work. It's like translations, no matter how good it is the translation is a separate work from the original.

I usually agree (with Av's statement), but I think they've done a really good job with GoT. Yeah, there are changes I wouldn't have made, and at least a couple of things I wanted to see that were omitted, but all in all, it's pretty impressive.

I know i have (had?) a reputation. but I love animals... how bad can I be? I do tend to see the world in black/white. but I fall on the side of angels.

and the random threads/subjects is just how my brain works.

and I am the only person in grey that I know that sings showtunes and other songs while watching the inmates.

Sarge, when Rigel gets here we will make point of calling you while hanging out at Danlo's house so we can all yammer! I still can't believe he will be moving in to my spare room in less than a month from now. I haven't furnished the spare bedroom yet so I am going shopping tomorrow to buy a bed and look for a dresser and night stand. I also offered to butch up the extra bathroom for him too since I have it decorated for Lady Tam and Grace in sage blue with a butterfly and flower printed shower curtain. Maybe I really should buy that psycho shower curtain/bathmat with the bloody hand and foot prints set off of thinkgeek.com. The other option I was thinking of was hanging my shark jaw and leaving the sage blue and trying to find a cool shark covered shower curtain... Hmm... off to do some internet searching...

So Danlo, Lady Tam and I did the red wedding dinner and made spaghetti and meatballs with salad and garlic bread. We put some marinara in the garlic butter for the bread so the bread was red too and we topped it off with red (velvet) wedding cake! Delicious. One more dinner night before Rigel gets here and we have the Lord of Light flambe night. Not sure what to do next week so any suggestions would be appreciated.

pasta, no sauce.

instead grill green or yellow squash, mushroom, onions, garlic, scallions and chopped tomato at the end, use this to top.

serve with baked bread (maybe garlic butter) and a nice wine.

if you insist i can cook this for you.

Ok, so had a very frustrating day. I have some frustrations with work and they don't seem to be getting any better. I don't know how many more times I can tell Mike to stop spitting his tobacco spit in front of the window where the customers can see and how many more times I have to bitch him out for leaving his tobacco stained mouth wiping Kleenex on the counter for me to pick up and how many more times I can bitch him out about spending too much freaking time playing his stupid clash of clans game when he has work that needs to be attended to. I have told him to put the damn phone down more times than I can count. Also the job has turned into way more than I signed on for in the beginning and I don't feel like I am being even remotely compensated for what I am giving up personally. I already have some feelers out for a new job so everyone wish me luck.

On the plus side of things, I hung a hummingbird feeder in the tree out back and filled it with a veterinarian approved nectar blend for the nesting mother hummingbird in the tree out back at work. She's so beautiful. I meant to bring my camera in today but forgot so on Tuesday I'll get some pictures of her. Nature is awesome.
