Google+ is Google's version of Facebook, that's all. Same idea, different companies implementing it.

And Google Plus doesn't limit your reach the way Facebook does -- if you post something, it goes to everybody in the circles you send it to. Or at least that's how I understand it.

Could very well be true. I don't use it except to "catch" a few people who aren't on FB.

Having a particularly rough time with my back this week. Apparently the spinal I had went bad and they damaged a nerve. My leg keeps giving out and I end up flat on my face. Its really really painful reminder of why I am on disability.

And it sucks. I am playing with the idea of allowing the spinal fusion. But 30% of the operations fail and can end up in a permanent wheelchair.

I need to find other ways of strengthening my back. Yoga not allowed. I swim, I walk but there need to be other things.

Facebook is for interacting with people you mostly already connected with somehow. G+ is for finding new people who share interests with you.

I don't FB. Never have, never will. I'm really loving G+ though.

(And yes, as Ali says, organic reach of FB has been slashed to 2-5%. So if you have 100 people following you and you post something, as many of 5 of them are likely to see it come up on their wall or whatever. Unless you pay Facebook of course.)

Oh, and they also just dropped their "real names" only policy. For what it was worth anyway. :D

I'm not on it under my real name and wasn't before the policy change. :D

Poor Lorin! I can't give you any advice, only sympathy.

:( Hope you feel better soon, lorin. I wish I had some advice for you. What about physical-therapy-type exercises for strengthening the back muscles? I'm clueless about this kind of stuff, so forgive me if that was a stupid suggestion...

Feel better soon, lorin.

I had a nice sushi dinner last night. The staff got wind we were out for my birthday, turned down the lights in the restaurant and brought out an ice cream cake with a candle and sang Happy Birthday to me. Then, a group of about 10 camp counselers from the local Y who were at the table next to us sang their version.

Tonight, I'm pondering, with the return of the warm weather, a trip up to my grandmother's old home in Wisconsin. It is on the bay of Green Bay, and can get a nice cool breeze in the afternoon off the water. Earliest for that would be the weekend after next though.

I'm having sort of a staycation. Batty's cat-sitting for friends while they're out of town, so she's staying at their house for the duration. Unfortunately, she didn't take our cats with her, so I'm still on the hook to some degree.

Annnd double-posting. Anyone who doesn't like it can complain to the mod.

So we've had beautiful weather here this week -- low humidity, clear skies, etc., etc. And next week is also supposed to be pleasant. So I figured I'd get in a camping trip this weekend. Guess what? It's gonna be hazy, hot and humid, with highs in the 90s, and a chance of severe thunderstorms on Sunday....

It's hot and humid here. 25c tomorrow apparently. I now have to face two days in a marquee at a village show behind a bookstall. :( Perhaps I will melt!

Sorry. Facebook has a function for events. They give you a special page, and you send invitations to other Facebook users, giving them a specific time to show up on the page. They reply yes, no, or maybe, just like in real life -- and just like in real life, they may or may not actually show up for the event. :D

This event was set up by a review blog called OddityReviews.com. The blogger lined up writers of paranormal fiction to host a party every night this month -- a different author every night. Tonight was my night to host. We had a pretty good crowd -- I met a bunch of new readers (who may or may not ever read my books, but whatever  ), and I gave away all the prizes. So I'm calling it a success. :)
Aha. So, it is like Skype where you video conference or a chat or something?

And, glad to hear it went well for you.

Depends. If you want local history books for Lincolnshire or indexes to Lincolnshire records you could have a field day! :D

I have had the Mister Clean jingle stuck in my head all day.

I don't know where it came from, but I wish it would go back.

I'm not sure why I feel the need to share this, save that misery loves company.

Happily, I can't remember the Mr Clean jingle..BUT..the freekin ice cream truck just went down the street..and the relentlessly repeating looped recording broadcasting its presence was..Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer.. ... ... Now. its like 110 f outside with a humidity of around 35%..a huge cumulonimbus is rolling back into the Valley from the hills and mountains north east..probable repeat of a horrible haboo of last nite..and the neighborhood is a-lited with the stylizations of Harry The Ice Cream Man jamming a Toy Piano version of Rudy The Red Raining Missles Down On the Ukraine..and, Get OFF My LAWN!
If she withdrew from exaltation, she would be forced to think- And every thought led to fear and contradictions; to dilemmas for which she was unprepared.

X-mas music in July should be a felony.
