It's official.
Beorn just received the "congratulations" call from the library high school internship program coordinator. Pending results of his drug screening on Monday afternoon, Beorn will be interning at the library starting Monday evening.
Once again, thanks to balon! for starting Beorn along this path over a year ago.

Congrats Beorn!
I was surprised yesterday to find that my supervisor for student teaching has read 1st and 2nd Chrons. I happily informed him of Final Chrons. He was only the second person I've ever personally met who has read any of Donaldson's work (other than the person who introduced me to TCOTC in the first place).
Today I was amused. I gave my students a spelling test, and for the word "crayon" one of my students wrote "crayola".

It's always nice to hear stories about meeting fellow Donaldson readers.Auleliel wrote:I was surprised yesterday to find that my supervisor for student teaching has read 1st and 2nd Chrons. Definitely makes a difference for music! Well, everything, really. That is a sharp-looking 2.1 system. Its low price does make me a bit nervous about its quality, but at least the advertisement doesn't make any outrageous claims. As long the sound pleases you, it's all good. Saw the pic of your monitor a few pages back: maybe it's the camera angle, but the monitor looks smaller than I expected it to be. Anyway, your desk looks like it has more than enough depth for that beast. Hope the headaches have gone away.Murrin wrote:Another addition to my computer, not quite so extravagant as the huuuuuge monitor this time: got these speakers, which are very nice for such a low price. Plus it's a pretty big difference going from two tiny built in speakers in my little old monitor to a proper setup with a sub woofer. This may in fact be the first time any of my audio systems has had actual bass.
Wahoo!Menolly wrote:It's official.Beorn just received the "congratulations" call from the library high school internship program coordinator. Pending results of his drug screening on Monday afternoon, Beorn will be interning at the library starting Monday evening.

I'm really excited for him, Men. Working and volunteering in a library changed my life for the better.

Congrats to Beorn -- for real this time!
I'm sitting in Magickmaker's dorm room right now. It's a wreck because she moved again about a week ago. She decided middle management wasn't her cup of tea
and is back on a regular dorm floor as a regular RA.
She says hi, btw.
It's Family Weekend. I went to two of her classes with her this morning. One was Spanish -- it was nice to sit in a foreign language class where I actually understood what was going on, unlike, say, my Czech class.
Going to class was new for me, but so far everything else is just like always: skip out on the sessions the university has planned in favor of shopping, eating out, and just hanging out in the dorm.

You know, that might be the best reason I've yet heard for auditing a university course for myself: so I can walk out of it without a care.aliantha wrote:Going to class was new for me, but so far everything else is just like always: skip out on the sessions the university has planned in favor of shopping, eating out, and just hanging out in the dorm.
I feel like I can't remember the choices the brought me here. It's a constant struggle to get anywhere and I'm tired of fighting all the things that would pull me back to the cycle of where my family is.
Feels like the basic things in my relationship are missing. Maybe it's unfair to post that here.
I guess it's just not a good day.

I always say the Watch is one big dysfunctional family. In this thread we are here to listen to whatever a member wishes to share about themselves. If we have no solution to offer, we still care about each other.
To paraphrase Dr. Frasier Crane, "We're listening."

It may take me time to open up, but I will. I have a lot I need advice on. Speaking of advice, we should totally open an exclusively advice section! Or do we have one of those? Anyway....
While it's not Xbox and DVD's for me, it's WoW and DVD's. I'm right there with you today.
I'm sorry, CJ.CovenantJr wrote:For those few who have been following my soap-like meanderings lately: got an answer today, at last. The lack of smiley emoticons should tell you what you need to know.
Ah well. Back to the Xbox and DVDs.
