Glad you're having a good time, Frosty! :)

Linna -- feel free to respond to as many people in one post as you care to. :)

Menolly -- I've been thinking about getting a SodaStream for a couple of years. I mentioned it to Traveling Guy the other day (spurred in part by a disaster in his office caused by a bottle of mango syrup that broke en route -- the mango syrup wasn't for a SodaStream, but that's how we got to talking about drinks in general) and he says they have one and they love it. So maybe this year will be the year.

So we celebrated Yule today, with gifts and food and way too much chocolate. I received an "ugly Christmas sweater" sweatshirt with Guardians of the Galaxy characters on it, a book of knitting patterns, a rechargeable external battery for my phone, and a stuffed Abominable Snowman who "sings" "Jingle Bells" (think "Puttin' on the Ritz" in "Young Frankenstein" and you'll be on the right track  ).

The nephew's been staying with us since Thursday. He's flying home tomorrow without his string bass, since he didn't follow through in time to line up someone to crate it up for him. Luckily for me, the bass is in the custody of the ex, and he has taken it upon himself to arrange to ship it back to Nephew in Seattle. Happy to have dodged *that* bullet....

I think the Victorian formality is not so easily shed. Interestingly here in the US I found it similar in the north east, but when I moved to the south the formality increased tremendously - children are expected to call adults "Sir" or "Ma'am", and I dislike being called "Sir" yet hear it all the time...

Glad you're enjoying the social life - what are the rest of your plans there?

Yeah, people over here are much more talkative which is great. I'm missing the comfort of a companion and e-fests, but trying to chat with strangers to compensate for it. Harder in London, though, the bustle and hustle here is insane. Walked in mud for 6 hrs yesterday so decided to keep an urban dress day. Phantom of the opera later today. Flying to Berlin tomorrow; London dies down for yule unlike the other. My first opera in a longer while on the yule day! :)

We saw Phantom of the Opera when we were in London, too, some years ago. I sprang for seats about two rows back from the edge of the stage. It was awesome. Enjoy, Frosty!

Christmas was awesome. in ten days or so we spend three days in San Antonio.

I am hoping to hit the Alamo (again) and the San Antonio zoo.

Have a great time, Sarge!

Well, my book club has resurrected itself briefly -- just long enough to get together for Yule tomorrow. I offered to host, since I have a tree; another member made disparaging comments about cats (to be fair, she has allergies/asthma/etc. and is often sick) and offered to host instead. Of course, I said okay. And of course, the woman who insisted on having it at her house has now begged off sick. So it looks like I'm hosting, after all.

We only have four members, so it's a problem when one person can't make it. Another of the women (ironically, the one who suggested we get together for Yule) often blows off meetings. It's hardly worth meeting if only two people can show up -- which is pretty much why the group fell apart.

Anyway, this will be my last holiday-related event, unless you count taking down the tree next weekend. Whew.

This week has left my internal clock so messed up that I'm having trouble remembering what day it is.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

I actually got screwed up at the start of last week and was a day late putting the garbage can out, and hence missed pickup. On the way to work this morning I took about 6 bags of paper and cardboard to the recycling center as the garage was starting to get filled with bulging trash bags.

Saturday felt like Monday. Yesterday felt like Monday. Today is Monday.

Three Mondays in a row is horrific and unnatural.
