I think the TV series (as much as I have enjoyed it) has been a big part of the problem, at least when it started seriously deviating from the book canon. I imagine there are things he wishes he had done differently from the beginning, and that will influence the written series as well.

I don't know how much his involvement with the TV series cuts into his writing time, but at least with the final season on the horizon he'll have one less excuse.

Fire & Blood is 736 pages, and part one of two. Winter is coming, but it's taking the scenic route.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on it if you do. I enjoyed book 1 and book 2, I like when an author can take very old and cliched fantasy tropes and somehow make them fresh. Sullivan is good at that.

Martin's not getting any younger, that's for sure. If he wasn't a famous author he could be mistaken for the old guy who plays chess in the park against himself and yells at the clouds when it rains.

See, this is what I mean. :D And yeah, since the series started I've been concerned about how it might influence things...is he just going to go "meh" and write whatever happened in the series as the last books?

Anyway, I'm reading Ender's Shadow now. Will do the Shadow books chronologically, then back to Exile, Speaker, etc.

Is that Orson Scott Card?

The "Ender" made me think that .. never got into Enders Game .. though I know many who love it. Its the author that leaves me cold... I know .. arguably not the best way to start an appreciation of a book

Meh :P

Im reading Robin Hobb, the Farseer trilogy. Am enjoying it .. and no I havent read it before, though my husband insists I have lol  its entirely new to my reading memory :LOLS:

Yeah, Card. I like his books, even if I'm not a big fan of him... :D

Shadow of the Hegemon now.

It's a series that starts parallel to Enders Game, and then becomes a sequel series that plays out while Ender is still travelling to his colony.

Saw the Enders Game movie .. and wasnt particularly good so it has made me a feel ok at skipping the series 😉

I acknowledge movies are poor facsimiles of the original stories, as penned .. but 🤷‍♀️ meh

In this case, very poor. Enders Game is great, and the books that follow it, (Speaker For The Dead, Xenocide and Children Of The Mind) are probably even better.

I enjoyed it! A lot of fun. Many good things about it. Good characters. A couple of good twists. My favorite thing was Suri reading signs. Very well done. Now I need the other books to be Daily Deals.

I just picked up Age of War as a Christmas present for myself. I put it away until then. :D

I got a free audible credit, so I've been listening to Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Time.

Dragon Tears, by Dean Koontz.

I know, it's schlocky formulaic stuff, but don't know what to read and haven't read any of these for years...

As I feared, reading one Koontz book has sent me down the rabbit hole.

Read Lightning on Saturday (one of his best) and now reading Watchers, also one of his best.

Probably been 15 years or more since I've read these.

Fire & Blood, GRRM. Pretty good. It's written as a history book rather than a novel, and the style reminds me a bit of Robert K. Massie's history books (particularly the one on Peter the Great), only with more dragons and whatnot.
