Congratulations SD .. it seems you get more value from retirement than you would from returning to the rat race/

Im absolutely exhausted .. its been a heavily demanding few days. Where I am is elevated .. beautiful .. but very, very cold .. yesterday I was out working at it didn't crack 6C .. it was just under .. and the wind was fierce .. toppled me a couple of times. So after I put out the fox bates .. and there is 250 acres here to look after .. found a sheep and new born lamb down. So we put them in the back of the truck and drove them back up to the homestead .. he has a shed with multiple pens for sheep and goats and whatever. So when we got mum out it was clear she hadn't passed the placenta so I got to deliver my first placenta 8O lol .. kinda cool actually.

So the lamb was in a bad way .. not sure how long shed been on the ground but was cold .. she bleated a little but .. before we got the milk replacer mixed .. mum trod on her and pretty much killed her. So that was really disappointing. I told the guy that in Scotland wed bring sheep in towards the end of their term and manage the process under cover. Its been bitter cold and they've already lost 5 lambs. So after working for a few days with the owner before they left for their holidays .. they've got 9 show dogs .. GSPs and English pointers .. and their routine is huge .. so was completely knackered last night and still feel shot. They also have 6 pregnant goats and they are in the shed with a good yard to graze in.

They've got poultry and several aviaries ..

I walk down to the sheep by the river at one end of the property .. just to check on mums and bubs. There were a couple of wee twins born that are doing really well. So nice to see them frolicking around with mum .. or rather annoying her for milk ;)

They've got cattle as well .. but theyre all good. Anyway its early mornings .. till about now .. and then Ill head back out and start the next part of my rounds.

LOL .. its fucking cold is what is work  I went out to do afternoon feeds and didn't wear my jacket .. meh .. I had a jumper on and several layers under it .. but .. nope .. just about froze ..

I had dog bedding to wash too .. so got on with that ..

Am in for a bit then out to give the dogs a run individually and put them in their indoor pens .. lol .,. then just the goats to feed and start the dinner routine lol

tbh I love it .. well I didnt love being worked to death yesterday lol .. but today is a good day. All I can say is they are getting their moneys worth .. I might have to up my price for propertys of this size with soooo many animals to care for ;)

Sorry to hear; always so disappointing to lose a little critter!
There was a bottle calf that we got when I was a teenager...
I remember being upset in the days of watching him decline and die from an infection. Different, but, still...

That sounds reasonable!
You also might ask them to not tell referrals the price they got for this time.
I ask some tutoring students to do this... I'll just be like, "You're grandfathered in at the old rate, but... my usual rate is higher now, so if you tell someone, please tell them my rate is [new rate]."

Anyway, Tuesdays are often my happy day this summer, it seems.
Firstly, I tutor a brother and sister on Tuesday mornings, and they are great, so it's a joy.

Secondly, in the afternoon, I have another tutoring student.
Sometimes I use things from literature to help me solve problems... and today I've decided that if Pippi Longstocking (or, as Frosty might say to correct me, "Pippi Langstrump") ever had a tutor, THAT would explain my relationship with this child with shocking relevance. (mutatis mutandis being in a different time period & diff culture, etc.)
Anyway, she often surprises me, and I delight in this.

And thirdly, I'm happy because... umm, I found out how a landlords handle a situation where someone wants to rent a place but they do not currently have an income that is like 3x as much as rent.
Glad to find the answer was NOT "they just would not rent to someone in that situation."
Oh, boy... that has dropped my anxiety a bunch!

Being a bit productive at work for a change, so I suppose that's good...

I dunno what you're talking about.
She just posted here within the last 24.
See?

Edit: minor wording change.
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
-Flannery O'Connor

"In spite of much that militates against quietness there are people who still read books. They are the people who keep me going."

You won't get rid of me that easily. My boss is on vacation, so I'm putting in some OT this week and next. Do Not Want, but money is money.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing

:LOLS:

🤔 mmm .. if Sorus went zero dark thirty .. Id make myself fly over to the US and hunt her down ;) :P and drag her overworked ass back. But I live with the supreme confidence that, that will never happen ;)

Plus it would likely bankrupt me .. so theres that ;) :P

ok how do I feel today .. well sore and hurting lol.

Well things got pretty full on .. one of their 6 pregnant goats delivered four premature kids. 😬 I found them early a few mornings ago and its been non stop since then, literally. :haha:

I could easily identify that 3 of them were not good. Mum had dropped and run 🙄 .. yeah great work mum 🙄

There was a fence between me and the bubs .. and in my haste I decided to climb the fence. I got to the bubs, one was still in the sack and dead, poor little thing .. and the other two were freezing cold .. she probably started delivering in the wee hours of the morning.

I picked up the two coldies .. and went to climb back over the fence .. you cant hang about .. you got to get them warm asap. So cold morning, frosty and as I was climbing over the fence one of my feet slipped .. and I lost my footing falling straight onto the hard metal fence. 8O OMG .. I kept my cool .. but omg I was in pain .. like being kicked in the nuts, if I had nuts pain .. 😂 From now on I will cringe whenever I see a man be kicked or hit in the groin. Yowchie .. cos ouchies.

Ok so took me a second to pull myself together and get the kids over the fence. I worked on them straight away, one was too far gone and he died. The other I got warm and eating .. so was very pleased. It involved 2hrly feeds throughout the night and I got 500mls into her over a 24hr period.

But the exhausting part was dragging the mum to her kids and I prepared an indoor pen, with hay and feed etc and no way would she come .. in fact I had to drag her a distance on a number of occasions and fucking exhausting. The little shit .. and I tried to get the surviving kids on to the teet .. and shed pull away lol .. so the weaker one I had to hand feed.

Linna we call young that need bottle feeding poddies. So a poddy calf or a poddy lamb etc.

Its a pain as you have to be trying regularly .. but I was lucky as she wanted to feed, well fair enough .. she was probably hungry.

But I got to assist mum .. mmm .. so much after birth. I called the vet to give her a shot of oxytocin as it had been nigh on 24 hours and she still hadnt passed the remaining 2 sacks. So that helped quite a bit. So I removed 3 seperate sacks .. which was interesting indeed.

Then I had to take the dead kids to the tree where Id been instructed to leave the lamb :( sad :(

All the while taking care of the doggos in between looking after the bubs and all the other things that required doing.

Now Im having a day in and doing absolutely nothing. Plus kicked in the nuts :( .. and not in a good way .. is there ever a good way? 🤷‍♀️

:LOLS:

There is no good way.

And yeah, that sucks. One of the things I hate about animals...buggers keep dying.

Still, at least it's Friday.

And now its Saturday .. oh how time passes

And I am having another rest day .. cos still hurts  but am healing. haha

Well its windy today too so I hate being out on really windy days .. prolly only about 70kn but still .. yuk

Tomorrow I might start in again on my greenhouse. Been so long since we got a jump on that .. and really want it up and ready by spring.
'
A friend up the road has a magnificent one .. that was a kit thing they couldnt construct .. haha .. so they had to get the manufacturers, an actually lovely guy to come with his son and put it up for him. Those things are a nightmare to construct. We had a much smaller one .. said can be put up in a couple of days .. try several months more like and it was a nightmare of a thing. Anyhoo .. the fucking wind blew it inside out 8O .. so it was scrap metal and we had to chuck the thing.

But mine is made from wood and these new savvy perspex panels ..

My friends magnificent one is the size of a house .. and he has .. this winter got tomatoes and herbs and lettuces growing in it. Went in there the other day and it was soooo hot in their .. I was perspiring in there  .. might be a bit too hot in their in summer methinks .. but there are auto vents in the roof and walls .. but still seems like itd get hot af in their.

Anyhoo thats me and my day .. how about your day? Hows it all going for you random Watcher to post next?

Remembering that I post in your shared futures ;) :P

Just out of curiosity, how long would I need to vanish for in order for that to happen? Purely theoretical question.

Yeah. Always good to check about the temporal boundaries on things, Sorus.

I love the description you gave!
I am very much enjoying imagining a greenhouse the size of a house, and so warm in the middle of winter! (though I realize maybe not as cold where you live as where you were working on the 250 acre place.)

Sooorrry to hear about the heap of scrap metal at your place. :-/ very unhappy.

So you're back home!
On the minus side, I never asked you to take and post pictures of how beautiful that place where you were working is!
Could you tell more about the aviaries, though?

Anyway, my day was very, very sweet, and making me ask, "Why is my life so sweet?"
This was after I had a couple weeks agonizing over, "will we be able to get something to work for something we really care about, and what if it doesn't?"

Well, had a bit of a rough one...my brother got hit by a car on Friday evening, so he's in ICU in an induced coma with a punctured lung and severe head trauma.

Basically waiting for them to let him wake up before I go visit. Meh.

Dont waste precious time questioning good and sweet fortunes .. some times life is just sweet .. and to be enjoyed. I hope you do find your own niche and that it is something that you love. As for me I didnt find that thing till I was in my 50s .. so hope you find your bliss before then ;)

Oh no that is not at all good. Sending love and best wishes, health and healing.

One of my "adopted" kids was in a car accident and was in and out of surgery, because of the fluid on the brain. He was in ICU for nearly a month and after that it was a very long road of rehab.

With all my heart, I hope your brother is doing well .. and try and get some rest when and where you can.

Thanks Sky. :)

Figure if 20 odd years of hardcore drug abuse couldn't kill him, this probably won't either...
