The word is really bad, just like "shut up". So many bad words

Personally...I don't like "shut up". When my kids tell each other to "shut up" it sets my fire boiling. I also do not like the F word or GD. I will say "damn" on occasion, but I never put "god" in front of it. I never take the Lord's name in vain. Nothing offends me more than that. But, most of the time when I am around people who do take His name in vain I simply let it roll off...

And when I say all the time, I mean so much that I often tell myself that I swear far too much. Don't seem to be able to do much of anything about it, it's a habit that I can't break, and don't really care about breaking when it comes to that. And the reason it doesn't affect my writing is that I think about my words when I write. I choose them far more carefully, perhaps because they are, to all intents and purpose, more permanent.

Avatar, I would so love to meet you! That's exactly how I am. It really isn't very attractive when you're a woman, either. After 14 years of nursing most of it either in emergency rooms or the federal prison system, it's just second nature to me. Funny, even though I swear and never think about it whenever I am talking to adult friends, I almost never let any profanities slip in front of my daughter. It's good that I don't- she's 2 and picks up on everything now.

Whenever I'm around friends who have children, my GF is constantly poking me in the ribs and telling me to watch my language.

It's not easy though. At least you have the motivation of your own child, but for me, being around kids is a very "sometimes" sort of thing. It just doesn't occur to me to ever watch what I say.

As for it not being attractive in a woman, don't let others impose their idea of what is proper on you.

It's not so much about what is proper- I just sometimes realize what has come out of my mouth and think- "All class, all low"

The only time I swear is when I am in traffic, when the puppy whines in the middle of the night because she wants to play in the backyard (we don't have the fence up yet so I have to stand in the freezing weather at 1am) instead of doing her business and going back to bed, or when Alex keeps talking and talking and talking! The only bad word I use with Alex is the "s" word... shut up. I use it on the puppy at 1am. Apparently, Nick thinks it is funny to yell "shut up" at the puppy. Fortunately before I can reprimand him, the girls pounce in telling him not to say that. I have slipped with the puppy accidents and said the "s" alternative for excrement. Alex said that yesterday and I said "Hey!" so abruptly that she jumped lol. In traffic and at 1am I say a lot of the "d" word. I try to keep myself limited to darnit, dagnabit, etc. My pet peeve if the "f" word... and I don't mean fart. My kids love that "f" word. I try to not let the "f" word get to me when other people say it, but if it is excessive, I usually end up politely asking them not to say it because it bothers me a lot. I also use Heck (Alex was afraid to use heck in her comic "Cyber Dog" because she thought it was a bad word lol), Hades, Holy Heck! Ocassionally the other "h" word does come out, but I try to limit my language to what is heard on syndicated tv. All in all, I am not big on swearing... obviously if my daughter thinks heck is a bad word lol. I tell my kids that when they are 13 they can use swear words with friends as long as no adult has to hear it (because if they want to swear they will do it anyway so I may as well specifiy the limits I will agree to), and they are free to swear around me once they are 18 and/or begin driving as long as it is not excessive (they can't ever use the "f" word around me tho or I will go mideval).

It is interesting to see new "F" words being created. I believe the new Battlestar Galactica uses "frack". I mean the military swears; so innovate new swear words!! LOL

Yep. Farscape had the most interesting slang, I think.

The old one did too. The old one also used "Felgarkarb" or "Felderkarb" (never could quite determine which). There's nothing like watching Templeton Peck slide into a 70's era fighter yelling "Felderkarb! I'll miss my date with Sinthea! Darn Cylons!"
