I bought the DC DVD, but haven't had the chance to watch it yet. I assume I'll love it. :D

I thought it absolutely great, absolutely amazing. But I can't stand the gore for gore's sake, I couldn't finish watching it when I rented it because the gore seemed pointless and discusting, but still a great film...

That's interesting. Sin City's gore didn't really bother me, because it was depicted in that very slick, artful comic book style. Everything had a sexy sheen to it.

The Saw movies, on the other hand, do have the kind of messed up gore that makes me nauseous.

But back to Sin City: I still think it's a great movie, so much so that I've placed it among my Top Twenty all-time. I don't think I can adequately express how much this movie exhilarated me, not without some really pretentious essay. It's the kind of movie that reminds me why I love the cinema.

I wouldn't go top 20, but I'd go top 50...

Thank you so much for your kind consideration.

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, as well. I recall reading some of Frank Miller's graphic novels when they came out (I am showing my age here) and I made sure to see it when the movie came out. Of course, I thoroughly enjoy the movies my fellow Texan, Robert Rodriguez, directs so Sin City was a great movie experience for me.

RR is working on Sin City 2 but this has been a slow "work in progress" for some time. We'll have to see how it goes and if it ever comes out.

Yeah, I'm an old-timer, too. I started collecting comics a few issues after Miller started drawing DD. Elektra was introduced a few issues later. A few decades before they started calling everything "graphic novels".

But that's for the Comics forum. Heh.

Since I'm too lazy to read this whole thread again, do you mind if I ask "why?" I remember not being too impressed with it.

Because the story is really well-written and Rodriguez managed to capture the look of the graphic novel--high-contrast black/white--on film. RR shoots only using digital film, so he can film the actors then digitize the scenery and background to attain the desired look.

Yeah, those are good reasons. :D And I think Bruce Willis did a great job of being a noble, tragic character. And Frodo rocked! What a psycho! And I'll have to watch it again, because it's been a couple years, and I don't even remember it all now.

Fist, sometimes you worry me. You've forgotten this great reason:

Just an excellent movie. Beautifully cinematographic, stunningly stylised and pulls off the stunt of being an excellent film noir hommage together with a strong streak of self-referentially ironic tongue in cheek.

And of course there's always...
