Sorus, sounds like you made the right decision back in the day. It also sounds like you may want to consider looking for something else. Change is sometimes a good thing even if the idea of it is daunting. Of course no job is 100% secure unless you get someone to pay you a great salary for breathing. When you can't do your job anymore you won't need money.

On this Wednesday I feel bummed out. Its for a lot of different reasons that I won't bore you guys with but I hate feeling down.
I'll find a silver lining somewhere during the course of the day. I always do.

I don't know if it was the right decision. It was a desperate decision motivated by my terror of being unemployed and the idea that any job is better than none. It was supposed to be a temporary job until I found something better. I go through phases where I'll spend a month filling out applications - dozens, hundreds. No response. No interviews. Then I get demoralized. Then I tell myself it's good practice for if I ever manage to finish writing something - I'm experienced at being rejected. I sometimes wonder if my aversion to social media is doing more harm than good - getting a job seems to be all about who you know. And I hate that, because I have experience, I have qualifications. I'm just not good at selling myself. I don't even like that term.

Still, at least it's Friday. Weather is slated to be terrible this weekend though. Have cancelled all plans for Saturday...now plan on staying in bed.

Its Friday at last! Going to see Guardians of the Galaxy in the morning and Sunday is Mother's day and my daughters birthday so looking forward to a good weekend.

I almost went to see Guardians of the Galaxy after work today, but I had to stay late and didn't feel like waiting for the next showing.

I almost never see movies in the theater, but I recently 'discovered' a really cool local theater and I've been looking for an excuse to go back.

Our local cinema has recently upgraded a few of their theaters to the new dolby experience. Big seats, cool lighting and the sound is very cool. They also have assigned seats so you get to pick the seat you really want and it will be there when you arrive. The showing of GOTG2 that I'm heading to in a few minutes is one of those theaters. Can't wait.

My local theater has assigned seating too - it's nice, except that since I don't have a printer or a smartphone, I can't buy tickets online. They're a fairly new theater that remodeled a pretty old theater, so they're a weird combination of modern and retro. They also play a weird combination of modern and retro stuff - there's usually a 'classic' featured as a Saturday morning matinee, and it usually starts early - like 9 am, which I appreciate as a morning person. They also play older stuff on a couple of weeknights, but it's always too late for the likes of me. The seating is nice - you get a lot of space, and there are actual tables - and actual waiters instead of a snackbar. The downside of that is it's expensive, but complaining about movie theater food being expensive is a bit like complaining about rain being wet.

spent a week on vacation. traveled to Waco, Texas {home of Baylor} and
Glen Rose, Texas (home of the Paluxey River, with actual dinosaur tracks in it.)

Well, Monday again. Weekend was bloody freezing, but luckily I managed to avoid leaving the house at all.

Yeah, it's going to be one of those weeks. Doesn't help that I didn't get any sleep last night, due to a marathon of increasingly bad dreams. It started off innocently enough with a dream about having to take a cat to the vet after work. I got to the appointment, and realized I'd forgotten to bring the cat. So I go home - and home was my old place, which was a lot closer to the vet - put a cat in the carrier, back to the vet. Wrong cat. Go home again, leaving the cat there due to dream logic - home was now located where I currently live. There's a catastrophe, and I'm trying to deal with it, and now I'm worried about the fact that I left cat #1 at the office, and I need to call them and ask if they can keep her overnight, but I have no way to contact them. And it went on and on the whole night, just getting progressively worse. I didn't even have a vet appointment scheduled today, but I spent the whole day thinking there was something I had to do after work, and I never figured out what it was. Hope it wasn't important.

Sorus, your cat dreams sound incredibly frustrating. I hope you are blessed with dreams of winning the lottery and buying the house next to Stephen R. Donaldson where he invites you over for dinner, as a friendly neighbor kind of gesture, and gets your opinion on how his new book is coming along. Then asks if there is anything he can do to help with your writing career.

Or whatever nice thing you'd like to dream about.

I think at this point I'd settle for no dreams. Dreams about winning the lottery are probably okay - don't think I've ever actually had one - but I'm still going to wake up and have to go to work, and that's bound to be a bit disappointing.

Uh, that is cold. This freezing weekend it went down to 48F. Admittedly it lasts for more than a half a week, (usually 2-3 months), but that was an early cold snap...we're back in the 60's(F) for now, but full-blown winter will be upon us within a couple of weeks.

Av, when I think of cold I'm thinking more in terms like at or under 30F. 48F in a stiff wind will force me to grab a jacket but with no breeze in the Florida sun 48F is just another day for me. Cold, yes but more invigorating than a nuisance. Honestly my thing is that I hate being hot which makes no sense for me to live in Florida. When its cold I put on a jacket. When its hot, even stripping down to my underwear I still sweat. Heck, its still Spring here and the projected high temp is 95F. The best thing on Earth is air conditioning.

We are all kind of like SRD's pupils...
and I think most people here are impressed with the way he doggedly dealt with all those rejection letters.

A good name is valuable.
I'm slowly concluding that my avoidance of social media (I've doubled down on avoiding it this year.) is causing other areas of my life to burst into bloom.

I have no idea how the job thing works. I doubt social media would have helped me in the job sphere, and would just have increased my anxieties.
Also I get like 100 times morally dumber when I go on Facebook. Things that I would normally realize are a bad idea just seem like a good idea.

oh, I want to tell you about my first job, the one I ended up in because I couldn't "sell" myself. It had so many unexpected gifts.


update on how I, Linna, feel today.. some of the things I've wanted to do for literally almost 2 decades are finally happening.
I'm excited.
I hope it keeps going.

otoh, I have one e-mail I should send soon that I'm stressed about... and getting so emotionally-high has me a bit frazzled.
I hope I take up wisdom & courage and do what I should.

TOM, 95F sounds like a perfectly reasonable temperature to me. Hot, sure, but quite bearable. I hate winter. It's cold and it's dark. The only saving grace here is that our winters are dry.

I think I need a holiday.

Edit: I just read on Wikipedia that the highest official recorded temperature in South Africa is 119.84F. No wonder 95F sounds like a cool breeze.
