Do you think televised "sports" are getting ridiculous?

Yes, just like reality tv they are going to turn over every rock and broadcast it.

No, I think it's fine, it gives fringe interests an opportunity to grow in popularity thru exposure.

TSN up here actually broadcasts spelling bees...and they've been doing it for years, even before Spelling bees were cool.

They also show darts and pool--what's next televised bottle cap tossing?

And what's with televised Poker?

Professional sports is getting WAY out of hand..it's seriously not about the sport anymore

TV poker ROCKS, I'm hooked on several different shows.

I don't get tournament darts though - the only darts game I know how to play is cricket, and whatever they're playing on TV isn't anything like that.

I don't get the deal with the rise in Poker's popularity--I mean I used to enjoy playing before it became trendy---but how exiting can it be to watch someone play?

I'll try it sometime and see...but I don't know.

I just love poker, love learning about it, watching the pros (although watching pros play poker isn't instructional in the least - those guys are experts at the game, and can play cards that I could never get away with playing.)

I don't have a problem with TV broadcasting not-quite-so-athletic sports. Not saying that I would personally tune into sedentary events like poker, but it's always nice to have variety on TV. If there's an audience for these sports, then why not show them? I think that's democratic. Why should TV sports programming be slave to the "mainstream" dynasties like baseball, football, and basketball? (Referring only to the U.S., that is.)

A sport is any physical activity where it's impossible to eat a sandwich while doing it.

Yes, sex is a sport.

You're just not limber and coordinated enough. I can eat the right sandwich while doing anything.

I think televised card games are beyond silly. Then again, ESPN used to show midget tossing when it first went on the air, so the more things change.....

Poker's the only thing that can get me to watch ESPN, the Travel Channel, or Bravo (which I don't get on my new cable package. it's ok, Celebrity Poker was only good for switching to during commercials. and now that they've signed Helmuth in Gordon's place, I don't think I could stand it).

Yeah, I don't know about adding Hellmuth to Celebrity Poker, but Gordon was the only reason why I ever watched Celebrity Poker to begin with.

I don't see a problem with televising different games and events...but are they sprots?

Is a spelling bee a sport?
Poker?
Darts?
(all of these CAN be done while eating a sandwich)
It's funny, some people have a probelm with BallRoom dancing in the Olympics--but no one sees a problem with figure skating in the Winter Olympics (other than the biast shoddy judging)

Glad to see my wise definitions are catching on.

I'll occasionally watch poker or pool but i don't consider either a sport.

NASCAR is the pro wrestling of motorsports.

The surest way to make rednecks angry is to ridicule NASCAR. It's a favorite pasttime of mine.
