another addition to the Covenant Soundtrack
I was listening to Slipknots newest album, Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses. and i came across a song called "The Virus of Life". simply put, this song is about a guy who has been watching a woman all day, stalking her, waiting patiently for the right moment to jump her, rape her. if you were sadistic you could play this while reading about the Rape of Lena. However, the scene that came to my mind when i heard that song, was Linden's first perceptions of the Sun of Pestilence. It's graphic, abrupt and it leaves its mark on you. Give it a listen and let me know what you think. Peace

I think i have listened to that album but i cant remember the song, ill go have a listen if i can find it.

Yep i've heard that one....i'm a big fan of heavy metal/hard rock...i do believe your synopsis is quite correct... either way with the rape of Lena or Linden's first view of the sunbane.....also if you really think about it,it really fits when Gibbon-raver assaults her Land borne health sense she recalled the experience as personal as rape or possesion.She felt is was down right evil either way.Which also set the whole theme of the first two-thirds of The One Tree.........rape and possesion both evil and befits the song quite nicely. Oooh, ooh! A soundtrack thread! Okay, most of my filkish musings arise from non-canon sources. Like, I think that Duel of the Fates ( from The Phantom Menace) would be awesome for the moment when the Sunbane rises over Morinmoss and Caer-Caver fights a desperate rearguard action in the retreat to Andelain. Yes, I'm a total geek, why do you ask?
I think the joyously petulant Blister in the Sun, by Violent Femmes, would be a great signature tune for Covenant.

Am I the only one who thinks Covenant needs an original soundtrack. I was thinking of people who could score it..

The central problem with suggesting any music for a soundtrack is that it has got to appeal to the largest number of people while describing a scene and most songs represent different genres and highly individual tastes.
If for no other reason (although I have a couple) than that, filmmakers most often go with symphonic scores, which back up film scenes without being partisan to the taste of a minority. Most movies with primarily or exclusively rock/pop/punk/new age (name your genre of modern music) music tend to appeal primarily to people who, uh, like that type of music. This is bad for business when you are aiming for box office figures.
Ironically, symphonic music, the outgrowth of classical, is what drives the big modern films. (The word modern also generally means 'temporary'). The trouble with pop (and other genres, all quite similar when compared to classical) is that it is literally that. It's temp - it pops like a balloon. 10 years from now it is forgotten. Symphonic music has a broad, non-partisan appeal that can span over cultures and centuries (although the latter is admittedly not important to the money-makers).

Rus, I agree with your comments. Most pop music is just that, pop, and will be gone in a short time.. which is fine for pop movies. Also as you said, most people already have associations with well-known songs or artists that can then affect how they view that scene in a movie, and it may not be what the director really intends. But symphonic (or trance, or folk, or whatever) music can be used to evoke a mood, in a much more universal way. Of course, the other thing w/ pop music in movies is that it often isn't about setting a mood or telling the story. It's about cro$$-marketing.
That being said, it's a fun game to play, so...
Styx "Fooling Yourself" always reminds me of the "Golden Boy" poem at the beginning of LFB. In my version of the movie, this would be the intro sequence
Starting w/ the keyboard buildup into the verses as we see some scenes from TC's life, and then the middle keyboard solo section has a jerky rhythm that sounds like the way TC walks mechanically... to the triumphant final solo (probably need to keep this part for the end of LFB or TPTP)...
