Stardust the Super Wizard

Post by sgt.null »

Image
Stardust the Super Wizard is a fictional character, a comic book superhero from the Golden Age of Comics. Created by writer-artist Fletcher Hanks, he first appeared in Fox Comics' Fantastic Comics #1 (Dec. 1939).

Stardust is an alien from an unnamed planet (in some stories, a star), whose "vast knowledge of interplanetary science has made him the most remarkable man that ever lived." He arrives on Earth vowing to clean up crime, and uses the powers that his knowledge has given him to fight all evil-doers.

In addition to such powers as super strength, flight, and invulnerability, Stardust's powers included "retarding rays" that slowed down moving objects; thought recording; the "delicate detecting unit" (a combination of ESP and super-vision); the ability to transform into a human-sized star; and many others.

Roy Lincoln was originally a scientist working with his father on a special explosive chemical called "27-QRX." However, when Nazi spies invaded his lab and killed his father, he resorted to ingesting the chemical to prevent it from falling into their hands. As a result, Lincoln gained the ability to cause explosions in any object he came into contact with, particularly through his hands; the only way to control it was to always wear special asbestos gloves (which were subsequently retconned into "fibro-wax" gloves after the human health hazards of asbestos were discovered). Donning a containment suit to prevent any accidental explosions, Lincoln became the "Human Bomb," removing his gloves only to expose his explosive powers against Nazi and Japanese enemies, as well as ordinary criminals. He later gained enough control over his powers to be able to remove the containment suit, though the gloves were always necessary.

Nazis? In 1976? And what about the Human Bomb, and his containment suit? He should have been called the Human Bee-Keeper! But, the saddest thing is DC wiffed on the opportunity to alter Roy's into a super-powered, super-intelligent ape, instead of just killing him off. With Ape Lincoln on the team, they would have been unstoppable! That's pretty much why I didn't buy the comic, you know......

I don't know what to make of this. There were no Nazi's in 1976, and there are even less now. All those 'II' and 'III' designations make me think it's not safe to be in that team. I'm assuming their predecessors didn't retire; it's more likely they died, or left the team and came up with better character names. Besides, it makes for aggravating dialog. Imaging them fighting a villain who shouts out "I'm gonna KILL you, Condor II!!!", and Condor III having to say "You ALREADY killed Condor II, fascist scum! I'm CONDOR III!" Oh well, at least the new Human Bomb II (AKA Nitro wannabe II) has a better costume.

Ray I is alive.

You're an idiot. The only positive about that costume was it allowed him to blend in at a beekeeper's convention.

You want to 'wright' it? Shouldn't a writer have the ability to know he's not a 'wrighter'?

What an idiot you are.

Now that you've gotten the negative reinforcement you so desperately crave, do you think you can stop making new threads about stuff nobody cares about?

Atomic Skull is a two-bit Superman villain. And Starman hasn't been what I'd term a resounding success. And if you can't even write a comic book character bio for "Win Wayfriend's Money", how do you think you will handle the pressure of a monthly deadline? No, I'm afraid this is just another of these weird threads that you start for reasons nobody can guess.

already in the trunk. :)

I write these threads because I truly love guys like the Atomic Skull, 3D Man and Bozo the Iron Man.

not every comic has to be gritty and serious. some absurdity should be allowed for.

grant morrison embracing the dadist movement in his Doom Patrol run is a case in point.

I like absurd. I have all the Howard the Duck comics, and all the Megaton Man comics. I got all the Justice League America/Europe/International that DC made in the late 80's, because they were awesome in their absurdity (JLE 6 is my favorite). Spider-man was my favorite comic growing up, and what I liked was he always joked around while fighting, and he always had ridiculous situations in his life. I even have nearly all the 3-D man appearances, though I don't know why that's relevant. But, none of that means the Atomic Skull has any literary value, even it it's for comic relief. He doesn't even deserve his own thread, let alone his own comic.
