"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Is it possible that that's NOT a joke? Vain, if it's for real, I give a gigantic sigh of relief at learning that the good ol' USA isn't alone in its monumental stupidities.
Eagle said factories from industrialised nations, not herds of cattle and sheep, were the main cause behind the increase in global warming.
Ya think??
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest

*shakes head* Only in New Zealand! But I suppose they have to raise revenue from somewhere.
New Zealand is home to around 45 million sheep and 9.6 million cattle, according to Statistics New Zealand.
Now that's a lot of methane emissions. 8O
The politicians must be rubbing their hands together with glee.

It's true I fear. As part of signing the Kyoto Treaty, the government has decided to impose a tax on cows and sheep and other gaseous animals to try and compensate for funding the thing.

Good grief!!! I hope little Johnnie Howard doesn't get wind of this scheme (no pun intended ;)). With all the hullabaloo about the GST settling down, he might be on the outlook for a new tax to introduce. :?

Well, the Kyoto summit ended up being pretty meaningless in the end, seeing as the country with the most to offer refused to play ball. :x
