Pirates of the Carribean

Post by caamora »

Saw it today. It was wonderful!!! Johnny Depp is the bomb! Orlando Bloom (LOTR) is fantastic! The heroine (don't know her name) is beautiful! I highly recommend it! Good comedy, swashbuckling action, hints of the ride (for those of you who have been on it) - all over a very fun movie. I give it      5 laughing emoticons!

I saw the trailer at the movies the other night and Orlie looked scrumptious. Definitely on my *must see* list. Thanks for the heads up Caamora. :)

Pirates has been and always will be my main reason for going to Disney Land (and the ride is much better at Disney Land than Disney World). I can't wait to see the movie. Jonny Depp rocks.

When I saw "Pirates" they showed a preview for "The Haunted Mansion" another ride-inspired movie from Disney. It looked great, too!

My 7 year old son is really into pirates. I'm thinking of taking him to see this movie, even though It's rated PG13. He doesn't mind a little bit of scariness, but I wouldn't want to take him to something too scary. What do y'all think? Should I wait for Peter Pan to give him his pirate fix?

I vividly recall sitting through Cliffhanger when I was 7, and the only thing I could think of was not being scared but being bored. Same year, I saw one of those Alien movies, and it did nothing for me. I guess it was because I saw Terminator 2 when I was 6 years old, so my standards were quite high. And when I was five years old, my favorite movie? A close tie between Robocop and Total Recall! I turned out okay. 8) Heck--I remember laughing out loud in the theater in 1993, when I saw the T-rex from Jurassic Park eat that guy who was hiding in the toilet stall. I must’ve been eight years old!

For me, movies were extremely important to my creative development. Had I not experienced an early childhood filled with that stuff, I'd probably not be writing a book that involves such graphicness. I take that back; I'd probably not be writing at all! I'd probably be a totally different person--one that I would probably beat up for not being the current me. Heh . . .

House on Haunted Hill, Sky? 1959 version or remake?

It's not that scary. There may be one or two parts that he might hide his eyes if he scares easily. Otherwise, I think he will like the action and the pirates and the swordplay!

Thanks guys. I think I'll take him. He really doesn't scare that easily. He saw Lake Placid when he was four, and he thought it was funny. He also liked that killer shark movie that came out a few years ago, and that didn't bother him either. Oddly enough, it seems the more realistic the monster, the less it bothers him. If anything's likely to scare him, it's exactly the kind of cartoony, haunted house stuff in Pirates. But I think he can handle it. He does really love pirates. :)

I saw it last night. It was decent, though I think it had a bit of a problem deciding who its audience was. Had a lot of great references to the ride, and Depp, of course, stole the show.

Apparently JD has based his character on Keith Richards, that alone ought to justify the ticket price.

Heh. Am really considering taking my kids to this one, it really does sound fun. They're at an odd age right now -- too old for regular kid stuff, not old enough for most R rated things... :? This one might be good...

I have several times, one of my favorites at Disney. I love how they had bits of the ride as scenes in the movie.

I hate to admit it but I was a bit disappointed. I had heard so many good things about this movie that I think I was expecting "Citizen Kane" and only got a light but entertaining pirate movie with decent special effects and a couple of neat but hardly inspired twists. I think this movie suffered more from my expectations rather than lack of artistic merit. Oh well...
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. It was great fun! Depp rocked! (I know what u mean Brinn, I think the same guys that paid off Ebert, Roeper and Lyons 4 Master & Commander paid them off 4 the PofC reviews 2...some Disney/2Oth Century Fox thing going on there... :? LOTRs paranoia, perhaps?)
