Trillian

Post by Vain »

Before I look to see if we can add a Trillian Messenger button thingy to add to the other ones (icq etc), just trying to see how many people actually use trillian and think it's a good option to have :)

Both Jenn and I use it. It interfaces with MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, and AIM. I am hopeful to have less problems with those on MSN than I did when I used the Yahoo interface. I was using Trillian as I was IMing with you just now, dlb.

I used Trillian back when it was in beta. Put up with a lot of bugs and finally got rid of it after they put out a pro version. None of my friends were on yahoo or ICQ any more, and having the 'lesser' version just annoyed me.

And I don't really recommend using the buttons anyway. Just another way to get spam. If someone wants my contact info, I figure they'll ask me.

I tried trillian once, maybe that's one of the reasons I don't IM anymore...

I've been using trillian for awhile now without problems. My only complaint is that the emoticons suck. :P

Trillian™ is a fully featured, stand-alone, skinnable chat client that supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and IRC. It provides capabilities not possible with original network clients, while supporting standard features such as audio chat, file transfers, group chats, chat rooms, buddy icons, multiple simultaneous connections to the same network, server-side contact importing, typing notification, direct connection (AIM), proxy support, encrypted messaging (AIM/ICQ), SMS support, and privacy settings.

Pidgin is better.

And you shouldn't need a separate button for Trillian or Pidgin (or Adium for Macs, which is what I use). When I click on AIM, MSN, or Yahoo messenger buttons on the forum, Adium connects me appropriately without a specific button for Adium, and Trillian and Pidgin should do the same.

What are the advantages of Pidgin over Trillian, Ms. Mary? Is it worth it for me to bring the laptop somewhere with higher speed access (Hyperception has disassembled the laptop, and I am currently using it without all of it's screws put back in) to download it?

I think Pidgin just works better than Trillian overall. Plus, it's free. :D

The version of Trillian I'm using is also free. And other than the emoticons being terrible, I've been happy with it.

Yeah, but you can get the full version of Pidgin for free. ;)

You don't have to pay for a Pro version. :)
