Granted it's been a while since I read ROTE, but I seem to recall Linden using the white gold in many instances. So why now, in FR, is she unable to use it? When she confronts Roger under Melenkurion Skyweir, she can't call upon it: "white gold was a mystery to her..." (p 269). And then upon her return to the present time, she obsesses the need to find Loric's krill so that she can use the Staff of Law and the white gold together.
Unless my memory is really bad, Linden was able to summon the white gold's power often enough in ROTE. Am I wrong?

Hmmm, not quite. The first two times were purely instinct (healing herself during translation to the Land and then when Kevin's Watch collapsed.) Other times, however, she really needed time to focus and concentrate. Wild magic simply does not come easily to her. Esmer always blocked her ability to use wild magic as well.
Furthermore, wild magic and Earthpower/Law are power opposites and can't be used safely together; she needed the krill to focus both powers safely so that she could accomplish her goal.
