The Mahdoubt's Deal

Post by lurch »

..Many elements to the Deal that Mahdoubt made with the Harrow, aye?. At the foundation is Trust. She Trusts in Linden and therefore is willing and able to " bargain" with the Harrow. A piece of red flannel wasn't ever so valuable!

And that is what I am getting at.. The " knowledge" thing about the Insequent. To them, " knowledge" is the end all..but Mahdoubt makes the leap,,goes beyond the endless pursuit of Knowledge,, and accomplishes something of More value,, with what she Does with her knowledge..In the bargaining with the Harrow, Mahdoubt even says " Words, pssshht!,," its the actions that count. What is Friendship, if one can't act on it..What is Knowledge if one doesn't do something with it,,So, Linden opened her heart just abit in Garroting Deep,,gets back to real time and " saved" from the Harrow as a result. Quite the deal,,and oh yea,,is assured that She is on the rite path..Trust!

Obviously,, I don't see the Insequent as a deus ex machina..but rather as excellent metaphors.
If she withdrew from exaltation, she would be forced to think- And every thought led to fear and contradictions; to dilemmas for which she was unprepared.

I totally agree with you, lurch. The Insequent are a totally unforeseen element to the story but I doubt SRD just threw them in there. I feel he's had this idea for a while.

Attributes as real power: pure genius.

I suspect that we may have not seen the last of the Mahdoubt. Although she may have died. 8O
What's this silver looking ring doing on my finger?

She reminded me WAY too much of the Unfettered One in Morinmoss from TPTP, though that might just be coincidence (?)

I can see that - I was reminded of Memla, the Clave rider who sacrificed herself for Covenant in TWL.

The Mahdoubt reminded me in the end of Vain. I thought of the parallel between her giving Linden her given name and the power that conferred with Foamfollower telling TC that Vain could be invoked once by saying nekrimah. The difference being that the Mahdoubt sacrificed herself rather than wiping out the attackers but she did get a promise out of the Harrow not to interfere with Linden directly, making the Harrow a somewhat Vain type of companion.
