If there's going to be a movie--it should be Animated
Agree? Thinking about it, with so many fantastic and beautiful visuals, wouldn't it make more sense to be an animated film rather than live action? Obviously, LOTR has shown us that it can be done, but they KNEW it would make a ton of money, what with it being the father of all modern fantasy. But the Chronicles? Lots of people have never heard of it, and I would think not so many would be willing to shell out the cash for a movie (unless it got stellar reviews). But animated, it wouldn't cost nearly as much to make.
And here's a question I've always wondered about a movie. How in the world would you deal with the problem of Health Sense? It's hard enough to even imagine looking at a tree and knowing that it's healthy, or seeing springtime in the grass and sky. How do you visualize that in a movie?

I guess only indirectly. Lush colours, beautiful vistas, maybe clever inserts like when TC looks at a tree he sort of sees how the saps flow in the trunk (like blodd flows in a vein), and of course via dialogue.

Yeah, but what kind of animation? My problem with this is that so many things in TCTC happen inside the characters heads, which only can be shown via very strong and talented acting, whereas animations are quite sketchy in that.
That is also my problem with the oh-so-many-times proposed anime version: it's technique is just too sketchy imho to pay justice to the Land.

To counter, where on Earth are you going to find any place that could even hold a candle to the beauty of Andelain? The majesty of Revelstone? Lifeswallower wouldn't be hard, you'd just need a swamp--and what about the dread Ridjeck Thome (ugh, I can't remember how it's spelled--Thom?).
And as far as inner monolouges go, since these would just be voice actors, I think they would be better at those kind of things than a screen actor would be--voice actors have to do all their acting with their voices, where a screen actor has to use his whole body.
And as far as the kind of animation, I bet Miyazaki could do the Land justice.
Sorry if this has all be discussed into the ground before.

I would imagine some blend of the two. I believe some kind of sureal animation being used to depict earthsight, but I would prefer the characters be either live or rotoscoped (a la A Scanner Darkly) The real world should be starkly black and white (A little Ozzy, but there are MANY similarities between the Land and Oz) With color coming as TC is awakened to earthpower. Andelain should be a visual feast. (Something like one of those super slick music videos) Illearth should be depicted as horrific, making everything around it look Flourescent Light shitty x 100. Maybe do it with some shitty, Alien 3 style CG

Where's Hanna-Barbera when you need them?

So, basically, TCTC as the Old Lord of the Rings Animated Movie, and Lord Foul's Bane would cover the first book and end half way through the Illearth War, and no second movie would be made?

As far as I can tell Anime is the way to go.. It would be a lot different to a regular animation movie or a live action, but I just think it could do it the most justice.. And I'd just love to see it.. If it was Anime I wouldn't care how much of the story they cut out..
