The Omega Man is being re-made. I saw a trailer for it this weekend. The name will be 'I Am Legend" which I believe is the name of the book it was adapted from.

What is Will Smith redefining Sci-Fi films? What next? Will he play The Mule in the Foundation movies?

There never was a Foundation movie, so I'd think that would be defining, not redefining. On the other hand, I think Will likes doing sci-fi; I have at least 3 sci-fi flicks with him in them already.

I'm sure anything will be better than the trainwreck of an original movie this was, all due respect to Heston's neckerchief

. Seriously, this movie's "theme" struck me hard at an early impressionable age, and I have always fantasized about
being The Omega Man ever since.......prolly why I love Mad Max so much, heh. Nothing like having noone in the world tell you what to do.

Keep in mind that the Charlton Heston version was done in 1971... It was one of my favorite moves for a long time.

The Heston film's a classic. I love it.
I Robot wasn't terrible, as long as you forget the book.

I think it's going to be great. There isn't much Smith can do to ruin it with cheezy banter, seeing as he's alone.

I didn't know that! Makes perfect sense, though...

Really?
I though the Omega Man was an adaptation from "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson.

it is, and so is Vincent Price's The Last Man on Earth. 2 movies, one book.

I really loved the original film too.
The book - I am Legend - is first rate, and I really, really doubt a modern hollywood sci-fi movie will do it any justice whatsoever.

I agree as well. But I really enjoyed I Robot even though it bore no resemblance to its source.

There is no
Robot book that had that story in it, for sure.
I, Robot itself was a collection of short stories. And there were definite changes to the characters. Susan Calvin, for instance, was described by Asimov as being very plain looking. Fortunately, the movie producers took that to mean she looked like this:

I guess WW West qualifies--never saw the movie but the TV series had ahead of it's time gadjetry. So he's been in 5 Sci-Fis then, actually? Independence Day, MIB, MIB2, I, Robot, WWW?

Midnight showing on Thursday. Against my usual habits, I have high expectations. Hope they don't crash.
