very specific individualized recommendation thread

Post by duchess of malfi »

For people to make very specific recommendations to individual people rather than sweeping recommendations at large (as the existing threads do).

for example:

Cameraman Jenn:

if you have not already read them, please check out the Mercedes (Mercy) Thompson books (urban fantasy) by Patricia Briggs

why? Because the main character is a very cool female auto mechanic working in the Pacific Northwest, so you might enjoy them

That is actually what I intended the Recommendation Thread for--people who wanted to find something that would suit their own specific tastes to ask for recommendations. It's just that noone's had any requests since I posted the thread. Though this is the other way around (offering unsolicited recommendations) so it might be different enough.

Malik - have you ever tried Jackie Carey's Sundering duology?

It is a sort of twisted retelling of Tolkien's Silm, with both god-led "sides" committing all sorts of atrocities, all the while thinking they are completely in the right... 8)

So you're saying that I should recommend Herbert's The Dosadi Experiment to Creator because he, slightly, reminds me of a Gowachin? I don't know if that is fair.... :P

I recommend The Godslayer Chronicles by James Clemens to Avatar.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I recommend the first Amber chronicles to me.

I recomend the Sarantian Mosiac to Esmer, as it holds interesting ideals about faith and religion.

drew, what are the titles of the individual books?
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
