GOOGLE SKY....ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THIS IS AWESOME!

Look. Ever since I first laid eyes on Google Earth I was floored. I mean are you kidding? The entire earth imaged and mapped out in a wonderfully interactive program with a very entertaining and dynamic interface and its freaking FREE? AWESOME!

But now I discover that Google earth has gone universal. The newest release of Google Earth includes the Google Sky feature that allows you to explore the universe in a way that is just as awe inspiring as its terrestrial counterpart. I'm loving this thing and I paid exactly jack for it.

Thank you Google guys!

Holy cow. I just found a link to Google Mars. There are cool color surface maps of my second favorite planet in the universe.

Nice; I just spent quite a while hanging out of my bedroom window working out what the constellations were that I could see (Cassiopeia and Perseus, and if I lean out a long way until I can see past the corner of the building, Orion and Taurus).
Apparently the Andromeda galaxy is front and centre in the view from my window, but I can't make it out.

Wow. As nerdy as this sounds . . . now I know what I'm doing this weekend! God, I could waste hours with this thing.

I stumbled onto Google Sky the other day. I'd updated Google Earth and clicked the button for Google Sky without realizing it was there. I can see that it will be way too easy to spend hours of time on. (edit) Heck, it even tracks the retrograde movement of Mars!
